Inverse reconstruction from images is a central problem in many scientific and engineering disciplines. Recent progress on differentiable rendering has led to methods that can efficiently differentiate the full process of image formation with respect to mi ...

The Dirichlet-Neumann (DN) method has been extensively studied for linear partial differential equations, while little attention has been devoted to the nonlinear case. In this paper, we analyze the DN method both as a nonlinear iterative method and as a p ...

We present a novel method for isogeometric analysis (IGA) to directly work on geometries constructed by Boolean operations including difference (i.e., trimming), union, and intersection. Particularly, this work focuses on the union operation, which involve ...

This thesis focuses on the numerical analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs) with an emphasis on first and second-order fully nonlinear PDEs. The main goal is the design of numerical methods to solve a variety of equations such as orthogonal maps ...

This paper shows a computational workflow to design a kit of parts consisting of linear bars and spherical joints that can be employed to assemble, take apart, and rebuild diverse reticular structures, e.g. gridshells and space frames. Being able to reuse ...

We consider the problem of finding a saddle point for the convex-concave objective

\min_x \max_y f(x) + \langle Ax, y\rangle - g^*(y)

, where

f

is a convex function with locally Lipschitz gradient and

g

is convex and possibly non-smooth. We propose an ...

This letter sets out to describe the first results of the design process that will lead to a new on-line partial discharge location method based on Electromagnetic Time Reversal theory and using the Transmission Line-Matrix method. A description of the bas ...

Systems and method for a task scheduler with dynamic adjustment of concurrency levels and task granularity are disclosed for improved execution of highly concurrent analytical and transactional systems. The task scheduler can avoid both over commitment and ...

Global Fourier spectral methods are excellent tools to solve conserva- tion laws. They enable fast convergence rates and highly accurate solutions. However, being high-order methods, they suffer from the Gibbs phenomenon, which leads to spurious numerical ...

Reusing structural components for multiple service cycles has potential to lower building structures environmental impact because it reduces material resource use, energy consumption, and waste production. One strategy to reuse structural components is to ...

A novel approach is introduced to determine the time evolution of optical forces and torques on arbitrary shape nanostructures by combining Maxwell's stress tensor with the surface integral equation method (SIE). Conventional time averaging of Maxwell’s st ...

The research community has been making significant progress in hardware implementation, numerical computing and algorithm development for optimization-based control. However, there are two key challenges that still have to be overcome for optimization-base ...
