The occurrence of manufacturing defects in wind turbine blade (WTB) production can result in significant increases in operation and maintenance costs of WTBs, reduce capacity factors of wind farms, and occasionally lead to severe and disastrous consequence ...

Implanted medical devices (IMDs) have been widely developed to support the monitoring and recording of biological data inside the body or brain. Wirelessly powered IMDs, a subset of implantable electronics, have been proposed to eliminate the limitations r ...

Access to metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with enhanced me-chanical stability is key to their successful deployment in practical applications. However, the high porosity of the material often af-fects mechanical stability. In this article, to achieve highl ...

Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) photonic integrated circuits (PICs) have emerged as core technology in a variety of applications ranging from LIDAR to quantum control and computing. However, the need for high-speed, low-voltage tuning and modulation has been a lon ...

The integration of technology in the medical field has greatly improved accuracy in diagnoses, thus leading to more effective treatments. Wearable and implantable medical devices offer great potential for remote patient monitoring, particularly for heart f ...

The paper proposes a synchropahsor estimation (SE) algorithm that leverages the use of a delayed in-quadrature complex signal to mitigate the self-interference of the fundamental tone. The estimator, which uses a three-point IpDFT combined with a three-cyc ...

Scattering wave systems that are periodically modulated in time offer many new degrees of freedom to control waves in both the spatial and frequency domains. Such systems, albeit linear, do not conserve frequency and require the adaptation of the usual the ...

The intrinsic random amplitude and phase modulation of 40 distinct lines of a microresonator frequency comb operated in the modulation instability regime are used to realize massively parallel random-modulation continuous-wave light detection and ranging, ...

Crosstalk between fluorescent biomarkers significantly limits the resolution of multispectral fluorescence analysis in real-time droplet-microfluidics applications. The crosstalk is a result of overlapping emission and excitation spectra of different fluor ...

Silicon photonics has emerged as a mature technology that is expected to play a key role in critical emerging applications, including very high data rate optical communications, distance sensing for autonomous vehicles, photonic-accelerated computing, and ...

Previously, space-time wave packets (STWPs) have been gen-erated in free space with reduced diffraction and a tunable group velocity by combining multiple frequency comb lines each carrying a single Bessel mode with a unique wave num-ber. It might be poten ...

The European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) is one of the leading conferences in the field of optical communications and its related topics. The 48th edition took place from 18th-22nd September 2022 in Basel, Switzerland. The conference attrac ...

The peripheral nervous system (PNS) regulates the exchange of sensory information and motor commands between the body and the central nervous system. Further, through the autonomic nervous system, the PNS plays a pivotal role in controlling vital physiolog ...

With the increase in penetration of power electronic converters in the power systems, a demand for overcurrent/ overloading capability has risen for the fault clearance duration. This article gives an overview of the limiting factors and the recent technol ...

Electro-optic modulators are essential for sensing, metrology and telecommunications. Most target fiber applications. Instead, metasurface-based architectures that modulate free-space light at gigahertz (GHz) speeds can boost flat optics technology by micr ...

The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a key hormonal system. In recent years, the functional analysis of the novel axis of the RAS (ACE2/Ang-(1-7)/Mas receptor) revealed that its activation can become pro-tective against several pathologies, including card ...

Redox homeostasis is essential for cell function and its disruption is associated with multiple pathologies. Redox balance is largely regulated by the relative concentrations of reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) glutathione. In eukaryotic cells, this ratio ...

Reconfigurable metalenses are compact optical components composed by arrays of meta-atoms that offer unique opportunities for advanced optical systems, from microscopy to augmented reality platforms. Although poorly explored in the context of reconfigurabl ...

In this article, a cryo-CMOS receiver integrated with a frequency synthesizer for scalable multiplexed readout of qubits is presented, focusing on radio frequency (RF) reflectometry readout of silicon-based semiconductor spin qubits/quantum dots. The propo ...
