In order to study parasitic oscillation that may occur in a realistic beam duct upstream to the gyrotron cavity, the self-consistent linear and spectral code TWANGlinspec has been modified. The large inhomogeneities in the smooth-wall beam duct geometry or ...

We design and analyse the performance of a multilevel ensemble Kalman filter method (MLEnKF) for filtering settings where the underlying state-space model is an infinite-dimensional spatio-temporal process. We consider underlying models that needs to be si ...

In a recent paper [Ray and Hesthaven, J. Comput. Phys. 367 (2018), pp 166-191], we proposed a new type of troubled-cell indicator to detect discontinuities in the numerical solutions of one-dimensional conservation laws. This was achieved by suitably train ...

More than 60 years ago, Prof. S. Rusck introduced a coupling model to take into account the interaction of lightning-generated electromagnetic fields with overhead power transmission and distribution lines. The model which assumes that the ground is perfec ...

The paper addresses the important issue of evaluating the overvoltages produced on a power system by a lightning event. First, the theoretical formulation of the problem in the time domain is presented. Then its numerical solution together with its impleme ...

Golgi apparatus (GA) is a center for lipid metabolism and the final target of ceramide pathway, which may result in apoptosis. In this work localization of highly hydrophobic hypericin is followed by time-resolved imaging of NBDC6 (fluorescent ceramide) in ...

This thesis deals with the application of electromagnetic time reversal to locating transient disturbance sources and the use of the asymptotic theory for the modelling of their interaction with transmission lines. We demonstrate that the time-of-arrival, ...

We consider the numerical simulation of integrated heart models for the study of the cardiac functioning with particular emphasis on the coupling of the muscle contraction, the fluid dynamics of the left ventricle, and the interaction with the valves. We a ...

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) structures, due to their low mass, are valuable alternatives to traditional steel or concrete structures in seismic areas. However, to resist seismic actions, FRP structures must be able to dissipate a significant amount of i ...

We present an ab initio study of the spin-resolved optical conductivity of two-dimensional (2D) group-VIB transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). We carry out fully relativistic density-functional-theory calculations combined with maximally localized Wann ...

We consider the setting of estimating the mean of a random variable by a sequential stopping rule Monte Carlo (MC) method. The performance of a typical second moment based sequential stopping rule MC method is shown to be unreliable in such settings both b ...
