Laser phase noise remains a limiting factor in many experimental settings, including metrology, time-keeping, as well as quantum optics. Hitherto this issue was addressed at low frequencies ranging from well below 1 Hz to maximally 100 kHz. However, a wide ...

How an animal allocates time and energy to different activities has repercussions for its survival, fitness, and response to changing environmental conditions. Fine-scale information on animal behaviour and energy expenditure can help develop better inform ...

The benefits and limitations inherent to the 2D post-processing of measurements from Brillouin optical time-domain analyzers are investigated from a fundamental point of view. In a preliminary step, the impact of curve fitting on the precision of the estim ...

Power-Force-Velocity profile obtained during a sprint test is crucial for designing personalized training and evaluating injury risks. Estimation of instantaneous velocity is requisite for developing these profiles and the predominant method for this estim ...

This study aimed to introduce and validate a new method to estimate and correct the orientation drift measured from foot-worn inertial sensors. A modified strap-down integration (MSDI) was proposed to decrease the orientation drift, which, in turn, was fur ...

Blind and universal image denoising consists of using a unique model that denoises images with any level of noise. It is especially practical as noise levels do not need to be known when the model is developed or at test time. We propose a theoretically-gr ...

Mobility concerns most daily tasks (e.g., householding, shopping), affecting life quality. Gait speed, recognized as the sixth vital sign, is a key to characterize mobility. It is also a primary outcome of many clinical interventions. Monitoring gait in un ...

Nowadays, efficient and remote health monitoring is becoming increasingly important, given both the ageing of population and the combined action of an increase in obesity level and cardiovascular diseases. The healthcare industry is becoming more reliant o ...

A novel approach to autonomous navigation for small UAVs was recently introduced by the authors. An abridged description of this approach can be found in present paper, with its main contribution being further evaluation of effects of wind on navigation pe ...

This paper describes the development of a sport watch, as well as the software and hardware required to design an integrated solution for getting feedback during and after walking and running activities. The developed system is autonomous, so that neither ...
