Hypertension is the most common cause of left ventricular hypertrophy, contributing to heart failure progression. Candesartan (Cand) is an angiotensin receptor antagonist widely used for hypertension treatment. Structural modifications were previously perf ...

Background:Arterial stiffening contributes to hemodynamic derangements in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). We sought to investigate the impact of renal denervation on pulsatile left ventricular loading in patients with HFpEF and hype ...

Introduction: Synthetic vascular grafts have been widely used in clinical practice for aortic replacement surgery. Despite their high rates of surgical success, they remain significantly less compliant than the native aorta, resulting in a phenomenon calle ...

Aims:Diminazene aceturate, a putative ACE2 activator, is susceptible to cleavage resulting in the formation of paminobenzamidine (PAB). This study aimed to investigate the effects of PAB in addressing cardiovascular dysfunctions in spontaneously hypertensi ...

The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a key hormonal system. In recent years, the functional analysis of the novel axis of the RAS (ACE2/Ang-(1-7)/Mas receptor) revealed that its activation can become pro-tective against several pathologies, including card ...

Aortic compliance is an important determinant of cardiac afterload and a contributor to cardiovascular morbidity. In the present study, we sought to provide in silico insights into the acute as well as long-term effects of aortic compliance decrease on cen ...

Ventricular-arterial coupling is a major determinant of cardiovascular performance, however, there are still inherent difficulties in distinguishing ventricular from vascular effects on arterial pulse phenotypes. In the present study, we employed an extens ...

In a progressively aging population, it is of utmost importance to develop reliable, non-invasive, and cost-effective tools to estimate biomarkers that can be indicative of cardiovascular risk. Clinical parameters directly measured in the heart or the aort ...

In pulmonary arterial hypertension, plexiform lesions are associated with severe arterial obstruction and right ventricular failure. Exploring their structure and position is crucial for understanding the interplay between hemodynamics and vascular remodel ...

In a progressively aging population, it is of utmost importance to develop reliable, noninvasive, and cost-effective tools to estimate biomarkers that can be indicative of cardiovascular risk. Various pathophysiological conditions are associated to changes ...

Rationale: Hypertension represents a major risk factor for stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure and affects 30% of the adult population. Mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to hypertension, but specific mechanisms are unclear. The mitochondri ...

Ageing is a natural process that affects both the anatomical and functional properties of the cardiovascular system and alters the coupling characteristics between the heart and the aorta. These alterations may predispose the cardiovascular system in the d ...

Introduction Modern imaging techniques such as blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) allow the non-invasive and indirect measurement of brain activity. Whether changes in signal intensity can be detected in small ...

Background: Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) were used as a natural drug delivery system for the transport of hypericin (Hyp) in the bloodstream of the chicken's chorioallantoic membrane model (CAM). Hyp was chosen as a model for hydrophobic drug used in pho ...

The monitoring of central hemodynamic parameters such as cardiac output (CO) and pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) is of paramount clinical importance to assess the health status of the cardiovascular system. However, their measurement requires the insertion ...

IntroductionAngiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a key enzyme of the renin angiotensin system, which breaks down angiotensin II and forms angiotensin-(1-7). In erectile tissues, it has been documented that angiotensin II contributes to the development ...

Drug discovery and development is a high-risk enterprise that requires significant investments in capital, time and scientific expertise. The studies of xenobiotic metabolism remain as one of the main topics in the research and development of drugs, cosmet ...

Aortic stiffness, assessed by carotid-to-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), often fails to predict cardiovascular (CV) risk and mortality in the very elderly. This may be due to the non-linear association between PWV and compliance or to blood pressure dec ...

Background The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has been shown to play an active role within the erectile tissues. The aim of this narrative review is to summarize the literature addressing the pathophysiological role of RAS on erectile function. Additionall ...

BackgroundAbdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a complex degenerative disease, which leads to morbidity and mortality in a large portion of the elderly population. Current treatment options for AAA are quite limited as there is no proven indication for pharm ...
