We present simultaneous profiles of the poloidal distribution of electron temperature and density (Te, ne), the poloidal emissivity distributions of a range of spectral lines together with the corresponding ion temperatures, Ti, in the TCV divertor plasma. ...

Until now, there has been a paradox in the utilization of infrared (IR) light, which carries a significant amount of solar energy (around 50% of the spectrum), for carbon dioxide (CO2) photoreduction. Given this, we propose a metallic conductor with charge ...

Using a novel optimization procedure, it has been shown that the Helically Symmetric eXperiment stellarator can be optimized for reduced trapped-electron-mode (TEM) instability [Gerard et al., Nucl. Fusion 63, (2023) 056004]. Presently, with a set of 563 e ...

A baffled snowflake minus low-field side (SF-LFS) is geometrically-optimised in tokamak a` configuration variable, increasing divertor neutral pressure, to evaluate the roles of divertor closure (comparing with an unbaffled SF-LFS) and magnetic geometry (c ...

Fusion occurs when light nuclei combine to form heavier nuclei. The energy released in this process powers the stars and can provide humankind with a safe, sustainable, and clean source of baseload electricity, a valuable tool in the fight against climate ...

The ITER Heating Neutral Beam (HNB) source prototype SPIDER (Source for the Production of Ions of Deuterium Extracted from a Radio frequency plasma), hosted at the Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padova, Italy, has recently started operating with evap ...

Electromagnetic perturbations of a magnetized plasma cause induced charges and currents, collectively known as the plasma response. In the frequency domain, this response is a non-local functional of the electric field. The associated integral kernel, know ...

An improved optical design for nanosecond diffuse reflectance (DR) spectroscopy is presented. The in-situ analysis of the electron back-reaction and dye regeneration processes in efficient opaque dye-sensitized solar cell devices (DSCs) was scrutinized for ...

Achieving large-scale kinetic modeling is a crucial task for the development and optimization of modern plasma devices. With the trend of decreasing pressure in applications, such as plasma etching, kinetic simulations are necessary to self-consistently ca ...

Radial electric fields up to similar to 4 kV m(-1) are observed in the boundary between the private flux region (PFR) and the scrape-off layer (SOL) driving E X B drifts between the inner and outer targets at speeds up to 2.8 km s(-1) in the Tokamak a conf ...

We present a numerical assessment of the thermal-hydraulic performance of the NbTi bus bars designed for the European DEMO. We consider the CS, TF and PF bus bars, as well as two alternative TF options for high-current operations. The main sources of stati ...

Plasmonic nanoparticles in aqueous solution have long been known to fragment under irradiation with intense ultrafast laser pulses, creating progeny particles with diameters of a few nanometers. However, the mechanism of this process is still intensely deb ...

The central vein sign (CVS) is an efficient imaging biomarker for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis, but its application in clinical routine is limited by inter-rater variability and the expenditure of time associated with manual assessment. We describe a ...

An important part of the electricity production relies on heat conversion. Indeed power plants burn fuels like natural gas, coal or use nuclear fission to produce heat that can be transformed into electricity through a thermodynamic cycle and the mechanica ...
