Development of needle-free methods to administer injectable therapeutics has been researched for a few decades. We focused our attention on a laser-based jet injection technique where the liquid-jet actuation mechanism is based on optical cavitation. This ...

We present the fabrication of 570-mu m-thick millimeter-sized soda-lime-silicate float-glass blocks with a 1-mu m-thick AlN thin-film piezoelectric transducer sandwiched between thin metallic electrodes and deposited on the top surface. The electromechanic ...

Among the medical imaging modalities, ultrasound (US) imaging is one of the safest, most widespread, and least expensive method used in medical diagnosis. In the past decades, several technological advances enabled the advent of ultrafast US imaging, an ac ...

A novel method for the laser to fiber coupling is presented in which coarse alignment is achieved through micromachined v-grooves and mirrors in a fused silica substrate. Furthermore, fine repositioning is done in a noncontact manner by using a femtosecond ...

Dissipative Kerr soliton generation using self-injection-locked III-V lasers has enabled fully integrated hybrid microcombs that operate in turnkey mode and can access microwave repetition rates. Yet, continuous-wave-driven soliton microcombs exhibit low e ...

A light pulse source (100), being adapted for generating repetitive optical pulses (1), comprises a continuous wave cw laser device (10) being arranged for providing cw laser light (2), an optical waveguide (20) being optically coupled with the cw laser de ...

In this work, we demonstrate a state-of-the-art high step-up/down dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter designed with GaN transistors, to achieve a high efficiency and large power-density. A quasi-planar matrix transformer with high step-up/down ratio is demo ...

In preterm infants, there is a risk of long-term cognitive, motor and behavioral impairments due to hemorrhagic and/or ischemic lesions. If detected early, lesions can be prevented. A bedside imaging modality, capable of early detection of both disorders, ...

The ability to switch ferroics (ferro-, ferri-, antiferromagnets, ferroelectrics, multiferroics) between two stable bit states is one of the keystones of modern data storage technology. Due to many new ideas, originating from fundamental research during th ...

In this article, we describe the general features of red blood cell membranes and their effect on blood flow and blood rheology. We first present a basic description of membranes and move forward to red blood cell membranes' characteristics and modeling. W ...

A dual-frequency-comb spectrometer and a method for spectroscopic investigation of a sample are described. The spectrometer includes first and second frequency comb devices for emitting laser pulses along first and second light paths, wherein the repetitio ...

While domain adaptation has been used to improve the performance of object detectors when the training and test data follow different distributions, previous work has mostly focused on two-stage detectors. This is because their use of region proposals make ...

Nowadays mobile phones have become indispensable, as they have been endowed with many of the capabilities that a user was able to achieve previously with the help of PCs only. Among the functions that mobile phones perform we identify audio and video calls ...

Frequency doubling of an infrared laser radiation in non-linear optical crystals is a widely used technique to obtain light in the visible range. The second harmonic generation process is influenced by several well-known parameters. In this article we stud ...

High-pressure studies in silica are of great interest to earth and planetary sciences. Highpressure phases are rarely found in nature as a result of shock events like meteorite impacts or volcanic events in nature. Recreating these phases remains a challen ...

Optical frequency combs are optical sources, which spectrum consists of a series of equally spaced narrowband frequencies. They made an outstanding leap forward in the accuracy of optical frequency metrology and became an attractive tool for numerous appli ...

This paper analyzes the effectiveness of the integration of the series inductor into the medium frequency transformer used for series resonant or dual active bridge converters - galvanically isolated DC-DC converters for high-power medium-voltage (solid st ...

Ultrasound can non-invasively detect muscle deformations and has great potential applications in prosthetic hand control. Traditional ultrasound equipment was usually too bulky to be applied in wearable scenarios. This research presented a compact ultrasou ...

Materials with thermal-invariant elastic properties are of interest for resonant device frequency and dimensional stability of precision devices. Here, we demonstrate that the temperature coefficient of elasticity (TCE) of amorphous silica can be locally r ...

The availability of nonlinear parametric processes, such as frequency conversion in photonic integrated circuits is essential. In this contribution, we demonstrate a highly tunable second-harmonic generation in a fully complementary metal–oxide–semiconduct ...
