As distribution shifts are inescapable in realistic clinical scenarios due to inconsistencies in imaging protocols, scanner vendors, and across different centers, well-trained deep models incur a domain generalization problem in unseen environments. Despit ...

This study describes the development and validation process of a computational thinking (CT) test for adults. The team designed a set of items and explored a subset of those through two qualitative pilots. Then, in order to provide validity evidence based ...

Active Debris Removal missions consist of sending a satellite in space and removing one or more debris from their current orbit. A key challenge is to obtain information about the uncooperative target. By gathering the velocity, position, and rotation of t ...

Overview Cough audio signal classification has been successfully used to diagnose a variety of respiratory conditions, and there has been significant interest in leveraging Machine Learning (ML) to provide widespread COVID-19 screening. Th ...

Digital Twins (DT) are proposed in industries to support the entire lifecycle of services with different perspectives. Lack of systematic analysis of DT concepts leads to various definitions and services which challenges the DT developers for data integrat ...

Dynamic non-contacting seals have been identified as the most appropriate sealing technology for reduced-scale and high-speed turbomachinery applications since they provide a clearance gap preventing rotor-to-seal contact during operation. Yet, any clearan ...

The biophysical modeling efforts in diffusion MRI have grown considerably over the past 25 years. In this review, we dwell on the various challenges along the journey of bringing a biophysical model from initial design to clinical implementation, identifyi ...

Increasing demand for new infrastructure and ageing of existing infrastructure has made management of infrastructure a key challenge of this century. Replacement of all ageing civil infrastructure is economically and environmentally unsustainable. Civil in ...

In the last decade, Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced cement-based Composites (UHPFRC) have been increasingly implemented for rehabilitation and strengthening purposes, rendering outstanding results. The ease of application, along with their superior ...

Moving towards an increased understanding of the dynamic processes in the edge of tokamak plasmas requires continuous innovation in diagnostic capabilities, pushing the envelope in both spatial and temporal dimenstions. Plasma density and rotation, and the ...

A method for performing synchrophasor estimation of an input signal, whereby the input signal is a sinusoidal power system voltage or current signal, comprising: a. Periodic sampling of a continuous time-domain waveform, consisting of a power system voltag ...

Nowadays, the ubiquity of smart appliances in our everyday lives is increasingly strengthening the links between humans and machines. Beyond making our lives easier and more convenient, smart devices are now playing an important role in personalized health ...

Coverage-based fuzz testing and dynamic symbolic execution are both popular program testing techniques. However, on their own, both techniques suffer from scalability problems when considering the complexity of modern software. Hybrid testing methods attem ...

Despite the enormous success and popularity of density-functional theory, systematic verification and validation studies are still limited in number and scope. Here, we propose a protocol to test publicly available pseudopotential libraries, based on sever ...

JavaBIP allows the coordination of software components by clearly separating the functional and coordination aspects of the system behavior. JavaBIP implements the principles of the BIP component framework rooted in rigorous operational semantics. Recent w ...

Architectures are common means for organising coordination between components in order to build complex systems and to make them manageable. They allow thinking on a higher plane and avoiding low-level mistakes. Architectures provide means for ensuring cor ...

Three distinct stages describe the technological evolution of a product over time: ferment, convergence on a dominant design and an era of incremental change. Until recently, the era of incremental change has been characterized as stable and one that invol ...

Performance and reliability are important yet conflicting properties of systems software. Software today often crashes, has security vulnerabilities and data loss, while many techniques that could address such issues remain unused due to performance concer ...

In this case study, we apply the architecture-based design approach to the control software of the CubETH satellite. Architectures are a means for ensuring global coordination properties and thus, achieving correctness of complex systems by construction. T ...

Architecture styles characterise families of architectures sharing common characteristics. We have recently proposed configuration logics for architecture style specification. In this paper, we study a graphical notation to enhance readability and easiness ...
