The synthesis and control of properties of p-type ZnO is crucial for a variety of optoelectronic and spintronic applications; however, it remains challenging due to the control of intrinsic midgap (defect) states. In this study, we demonstrate a synthetic ...

In this study, we place a strong emphasis on understanding the ultrafast dynamics of carrier recombination pathways in p-type ZnO, especially in the midgap region. Synthesizing and controlling the properties of p-type ZnO remains a pivotal yet challenging ...

Electron-rich organocerium complexes (C5Me4H)(3)Ce and [(C5Me5)(2)Ce(ortho-oxa)], with redox potentials E-1/2 = -0.82 V and E-1/2 = -0.86 V versus Fc/Fc(+), respectively, were reacted with fullerene (C-60) in different stoichiometries to obtain molecular m ...

In this work, we demonstrate that GaN can be directly grown at high temperature on Si(111) substrates by metalorganic CVD without using any intentional AlN buffer, by simply employing a trimethylaluminum (TMAl) preflow. We found that n-GaN layers directly ...

Silicon heterojunction (SHJ)-solar modules-when encapsulated with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)-are known to be extremely sensitive to water ingress. The reason for this is, however, not clear. Here, we explain the root causes of this degradation mechanism ...

Predictive synthesis–structure–property relationships are at the core of materials design for novel applications. In this regard, correlations between the compositional stoichiometry variations and functional properties are essential for enhancing the perf ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are atomically thin crystals with exceptional mechanical, electrical and optical properties. Their unique characteristics originating from quantum confinement in the vertical dimension have attracted a strong interest for sci ...

III-V semiconductors outperform Si in many optoelectronics applications due to their high carrier mobility, efficient light emission and absorption processes, and the possibility to engineer their band gap through alloying. However, complementing Si techno ...

The majority of current semiconductor technologies are built on Si (100), such as the CMOS technology, or conventional solar cell devices. III-V semiconductors offer great perspectives given their high carrier mobility and direct band gap. However their in ...

This work investigates halide segregation in methylammonium-free wide bandgap perovskites by photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and advanced electron microscopy techniques. Our study reveals how the formation of nano-emitting low-energy domains embedde ...

c-plane GaN/AlN quantum dots (QDs) are promising zero-dimensional quantum nanostructures that exhibit single photon emission properties up to room temperature and even above. In this context, it is of prime interest to gain a deeper insight into the recomb ...

A comprehensive picture explaining the effect of the crystal size in metal halide perovskite films on their opto-electronic characteristics is currently lacking. We report that perovskite nanocrystallites exhibit a wider band gap due to concurrent quantum ...

Power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of up to 25.5 % have been reported for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Thus, they have shown great potential for commercial applications. Therefore, simplifying technological process and reducing production costs have be ...

Dielectric metasurfaces have shown prominent applications in nonlinear optics due to strong field enhancement and low dissipation losses at the nanoscale. Chalcogenide glasses are one of the promising materials for the observation of nonlinear effects than ...

This work investigates t the effectiveness of glass-glass solar PV module structures used in combination with a EVA as an encapsulant material. The use of EVA in glass-glass structures is in principle discouraged, as a bioproduct of its photo-degradation i ...

Defects of metal-halide perovskites detrimentally influence the optoelectronic properties of the thin film and, ultimately, the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Especially, defect-mediated nonradiative recombination that occurs at ...

Metal halide perovskite quantum dots (Pe-QDs) are of great interest in new-generation photovoltaics (PVs). However, it remains challenging in the construction of conductive and intact Pe-QD films to maximize their functionality. Herein, a ligand-assisted s ...

In this work we present a method to quantitatively measure the optical absorption of single nanowires that can be applied over a wide range of temperatures and with a high enough sensitivity to enable the measurement of below-band-gap absorption (as well a ...

Methylammonium (MA) is one of the main obstacles that hold back the commercialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Formamidinium (FA)-based perovskite is a promising photovoltaic material due to its higher thermal stability and smaller bandgap. Howeve ...

In this thesis, we focus on investigating the shape and size evolution of colloidal CdSe nanomaterials in the presence of carboxylate and alkylamine surface ligands. By elaborating the combination of carboxylates and alkylamines with different hydrocarbon ...
