The use of discrete choice models (DCMs) is a regular approach to investigating migration aspirations concerning destination choices. However, given the complex substitution patterns between destinations, more advanced model specifications than the multino ...

Outliers in discrete choice response data may result from misclassification and misreporting of the response variable and from choice behaviour that is inconsistent with modelling assumptions (e.g. random utility maximisation). In the presence of outliers, ...

Traffic congestion constitutes one of the most frequent, yet challenging, problems to address in the urban space. Caused by the concentration of population, whose mobility needs surpass the serving capacity of urban networks, congestion cannot be resolved ...

Oligopolistic competition occurs in various transportation markets. In this paper, we introduce a framework to find approximate equilibrium solutions of oligopolistic markets in which demand is modeled at the disaggregate level using discrete choice models ...

The objective of this thesis is to develop a general methodology to incorporate a disaggregate demand representation in supply-oriented optimization problems that allows to capture the interplay between the behavior of individuals and the decisions to be o ...

Network travel time reliability can be represented by a relationship between network space-mean travel time and the standard deviation of network travel time. The primary objective of this paper is to improve estimation of the network travel time reliabili ...

The focus of this thesis is to develop methods to address research challenges related to correlation patterns in discrete choice models. In the context of correlations within alternatives, we extend the novel methodology of the multiple indicator solution ...

Travel time is a major component in understanding travel demand. However, the quantification of demand and forecasting hinges on understanding how travel time is perceived and reported. Travel time reporting is typically subject to errors and this paper fo ...

Route choice analysis concerns the understanding, modeling and prediction of the itinerary of an individual who travels from one position to another. In this thesis we elaborate on aggregate route choice analysis. The objective is the development of a flex ...

Pollution, congestion and urbanistic considerations are leading to a change in the use of private vehicles in dense city centers. More frequently, the last-mile is covered with systems such as public transport, car sharing and bike sharing as well as an in ...

Recent studies have demonstrated that Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD), which provides. an aggregated model of urban traffic dynamics linking network production and density, offers a new generation of real-time traffic management strategies to improve ...

Recurrent congestion during increasingly extended daily peak periods is an escalating phenomenon with multidimensional impact.Congestion mitigation in highways is polarized between invasive infrastructure interventions and Intelligent Transportation System ...

In this thesis, we develop methods for modeling route choice behavior using smartphone data. The developing global positioning system (GPS) technology and the popularity of smartphones have revolutionized the revealed preference route choice data collectio ...

This thesis investigates methodologies for improving the demand responsiveness of transportation systems through flexibility. The methodologies propose advances both in demand and supply models having a focus on supply-demand interactions. The demand side ...

Most civil engineering infrastructures, especially bridges worldwide, are approaching the end of their designed lifespan. They are continuously deteriorating due largely to material aging, excessive loads and changing environments. Therefore, it is crucial ...

This thesis tackles new challenges associated with the disaggregate modeling of the human behavior. Decision-aid tools help in making decisions, by providing quantitative insights on the decisions and associated consequences. They are useful in complex sit ...

This thesis focuses on the route choice behavior of car drivers (uni-modal networks). More precisely, we are interested in identifying which route a given traveler would take to go from one location to another. For the analysis of this problem we use discr ...

Route choice models are difficult to design and to estimate for various reasons. In this paper we focus on issues related to data. Indeed, real data in its original format are not related to the network used by the modeler and do therefore not correspond t ...

Typical daily decision-making process of individuals regarding use of transport system involves mainly three types of decisions: mode choice, departure time choice and route choice. This paper focuses on the mode and departure time choice processes and stu ...
