A detailed study of the interaction between high-speed gas flows and surface dielectric barrier discharges (DBD) is presented. In the present paper, it is demonstrated that a DBD can be sustained in transonic airflows, up to isentropic Mach numbers of 1.1. ...

Inferring the organization of fluorescently labeled nanosized structures from single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) data, typically obscured by stochastic noise and background, remains challenging. To overcome this, we developed a method to extrac ...

High-head storage hydropower plants mainly operate their turbines during periods of high energy demand. The sudden starting and stopping of turbines (hydropeaking) lead to highly unsteady flow in channels and rivers. Besides hydropeaking, other anthropogen ...

The operation principle of a semiconductor nanowire (NW) ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET), denoted for pH sensing, is studied within the framework of this work. The physical processes in the system are mathematically modelled and presented in ...

An experimental and numerical investigation of boundary layer suction (BLS) on a transonic compressor blade has been conducted. The objective of the present work is to identify the possible benefit of boundary layer suction via a slot in the region of the ...

Oscillators have two main limitations: their synchronization properties are limited (i.e., they have a finite synchronization region) and they have no memory of past interactions (i.e., they return to their intrinsic frequency whenever the entraining signa ...

Low Pressure Plasma Spraying (LPPS) processes use a DC plasma jet expanding at low pressure for fast deposition of dense coatings in a controlled atmosphere. The LPPS technology is widely used industrially in particular in the aeronautics and medical indus ...

Neutron spectroscopy on the classical triangular-lattice frustrated antiferromagnet h-YMnO3 reveals diffuse, gapless magnetic excitations present both far below and above the ordering temperature. The correlation length of the excitations increases as the ...

Depletion interactions between colloids of discoidal shape can induce their self-assembly into columnar aggregates. This is an effect of entropic origin with important implications in a range of colloidal systems, particularly in the clustering of erythroc ...

We address the intrinsic polarization and screening of an external electric field in a broad range of ordered and twisted configurations of multilayer graphene, using an ab initio approach combining density functional theory and the Wannier function formal ...

This thesis focuses on the development and validation of a reduced order technique for cardiovascular simulations. The method is based on the combined use of the Reduced Basis method and a Domain Decomposition approach and can be seen as a particular imple ...

In this work, we demonstrate theoretically and experimentally the ability to classify and reconstruct subwavelength acoustic images from far field measurements using a machine learning approach, combined with a locally resonant metamaterial lens placed in ...

Within the ultimate goal of classifying universality in quantum many-body dynamics, understanding the relation between out-of-equilibrium and equilibrium criticality is a crucial objective. Models with power-law interactions exhibit rich well-understood cr ...

We report new measurements of the production cross sections of pairs of charged pions and kaons as a function of their fractional energies using various fractional-energy definitions. Two different fractional-energy definitions were used and compared to th ...

Crack front waves are long-lived perturbations propagating along the crack front. They are triggered by heterogeneities on the crack plane, as for instance tough asperities, which disturb the crack front shape. Crack front waves are thought to leave a trac ...

Nanoparticle (NP) colloidal stability plays a crucial role in biomedical application not only for human and environmental safety but also for NP efficiency and functionality. NP agglomeration is considered as a possible process in monodispersed NP colloida ...

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb-1, collected by the LHCb experiment, the production of the.c(1S) state in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of v s = 13 TeVis studied in the rapidity range 2.0 < y < ...

The topological classification of matter has been extended to include semimetallic phases characterized by the presence of topologically protected band degeneracies. In Weyl semimetals, the foundational gapless topological phase, chiral degeneracies are is ...
