As the international mobility of academic scientists is ever increasing, its effects on outcomes beyond research productivity deserve more attention. In this paper, we therefore investigate to what extent academics with different international mobility exp ...

This paper analyzes efficiency and profitability in the Swiss banking sector over the period 1997–2019. We find strong evidence for scale economies: for most banks in the sample, efficiency and profitability increase with bank size. Using an instrumental v ...

Efficiency is one of the key performance indexes in the design of electric motors. When considering fully active magnetic bearing machines, this aspect gain further relevance due to the necessity of actively controlling all the remaining degrees of freedom ...

This thesis consists of three chapters on informational frictions in financial markets. The chapters analyze problems related to markets' ability to guide real investment, and what drives liquidity. Both problems are important to ensure efficient resource ...

The hydropower sector has recently raised the interest in pump as turbine (PaT) that can be a valid trade-off between capital cost and performance in micro-scale installations. Nevertheless, the modest efficiency of PaTs often restricts their exploitation. ...

Creating new ventures is one of the most central topics to entrepreneurship and is a critical step from which many theories of management, organizational behavior, and strategic management build. Therefore, this review and proposed research agenda are rele ...

Entrepreneurship is a highly contextualized process. Yet, the vast majority of entrepreneurship research has focused on Western contexts, yielding a skewed picture of global entrepreneurial behavior. Moreover, theories of mainstream psychology explaining t ...

Organizing is a managerial process which demands a sense of purpose. When stories about "who we are" and "what we do" are salient and coherent (Voss, Cable & Voss, 2006), organizations can better plan, explain and justify collective action (Whetten & Macke ...

Research summaryEntrepreneurial behavior is core to our understanding of entrepreneurship. Yet, research progress is hindered because most studies adopt a traditional perspective of the construct that is embedded in economic rationality and focused on for- ...

In light of the environmental consequences of linear production and consumption processes, the circular economy (CE) is gaining momentum as a concept and practice, promoting closed material cycles by focusing on multiple strategies from material recycling ...

Worst-case design is used in IoT devices and high performance data centers to ensure reliability, leading to a power efficiency loss. Recently, approximate computing has been proposed to trade off accuracy for efficiency. In this paper, we use Inexact Spec ...

The energy efficiency of digital architectures is tightly linked to the voltage level (Vdd) at which they operate. Aggressive voltage scaling is therefore mandatory when ultra-low power processing is required. Nonetheless, the lowest admissible Vdd is ofte ...

Harvesting the numerous small scale hydroelectric potential is a way to increase the sustainable hydraulic energy production in developed countries. The condition to meet economical profitability with pico power stations - below 25 kW - is to minimize the ...

This paper examines the design and efficiency of a highway use reservation system where commuters need reservations to access a highway facility at specific times. We show that, by accommodating reservation requests to the level that the highway capacity a ...

Today, energy saving is one of the main objectives for engineers. In the case of mobile applications, energy can be saved by two different ways: decreasing the total masse of the system and increasing the efficiency of the overall system. This paper presen ...

The resource-based view suggests that firms' heterogeneous resource endowments are important for explaining interfirm performance differences. To date, however, the literature provides little insight on the factors that shape the identification of markets ...

We present a new class of continuously defined parametric snakes using a special kind of exponential splines as basis functions. We have enforced our bases to have the shortest possible support subject to some design constraints to maximize efficiency. Whi ...

Today, energy saving is one of the main objectives for engineers. In the case of mobile applications, energy can be saved by two different ways. First, decreasing the total masse of the system, and second, increasing the efficiency of the overall system. T ...

A new procedure for benchmarking analysis has been developed to evaluate the energy efficiency of a chemical process. Benchmarking is performed to identify process inefficiencies before developing energy enhancement measures. The new procedure combines typ ...

In a context in which economy and ecology follow historically opposed trajectories, renewable energies appear as an interesting compromise. However, the energy production from these emerging technologies is well below that of their ancestors, and their cos ...
