Advanced antenna system (AAS) is a viable option for 5G millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. AAS single element is favored to be dual-polarized, wideband, high gain, and compact in order to be utilized for 5G antenna arrays. In this paper, a low complexi ...

This contribution presents the design of a compact circularly polarized antenna featuring beamwidth reconfiguration in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The observed radiation patterns in each of the reconfigurable states present axial symmetry and ...

Deployable emergency communication systems are a backbone solution for replacing damaged network infrastructures and/or providing high-end services in case of an emergency event. It is important that such systems are up-to-date with the latest mobile netwo ...

An ultralow-profile circularly polarized (CP) reflectarray (RA) antenna is presented in this article, based on the variable-rotation technique for beam collimation and scanning. Starting from a conventional split-loop element, a new wideband element is des ...

In this study, one method of using antennas based on fractals to cover few kinds of public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) communications was presented. Dedicated antenna forms, necessary for antenna design by 5G implementation, were enhanced to suit ...

Many metamaterials, including metal wire grid, was invented to enhance the performance of the antenna in the last decade. A novel zero index metamaterial (ZIM), consisting of double metal layers with periodic circular perforation cells, was proposed and st ...

CubeSats are a type of small satellites (< 500 kg) that weigh several kilograms and consist of multiple Units (U) measuring 100 × 100 × 113.5 mm3. CubeSats emerged as a low-cost alternative to conventional large satellites, and have since demonstrated capa ...

Waves in the Ion Cyclotron Range of Frequencies (ICRF) enhance local Plasma-Surface Interactions (PSI) near the wave launchers and magnetically-connected objects via Radio-Frequency (RF) sheath rectification. ITER will use 20MW of ICRF power over long puls ...

Recent achievements in studies of the effects of ICRF (Ion Cyclotron Range of Frequencies) power on the SOL (Scrape-Off Layer) and PWI (Plasma Wall Interactions) in ASDEX Upgrade (AUG), Alcator C-Mod, and JET-ILW are reviewed. Capabilities to diagnose and ...

This paper addresses the design of an antenna array for a portable picocell station with omnidirectional coverage. The proposed solution includes a stacked patch antenna as a single radiating element of the antenna array and a hybrid beamforming network. T ...

PURPOSE: Dipole antennas that provide high transmit field penetration with large coverage, and their use in a parallel transmit setup, may be advantageous in minimizing B 1+ -field inhomogeneities at ultra-high field, i.e 7T. We have developed and evaluate ...

In this article, a rigorous analytical methodology is introduced for designing near-zero refractive index metamaterials (NZIMs). Our proposed NZIM media is realized by three stacked layers of perforated metallic surfaces, each layer composed of a fishnet-l ...

A compact and broadband orthomode transducer (OMT) with two dual linearly polarized ports is reported here for the first time. The component is based on a combination of two ridged Boifot junctions through a series of power dividers that act as an embedded ...

Aside from intentional interference, multipath is the most significant error source for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receivers in many operational scenarios. In this thesis, we study the multipath estimation from two different perspectives: t ...

The ever-growing demand for high-speed data links together with the increasing congestion in the traditional microwave spectrum are pushing for the exploitation of higher microwave and millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies, including the so-called Ka band. ...

This paper characterizes the estimation performance of synthetic aperture (SA) techniques in the context of moving GNSS receivers. Under the assumption of a stationary channel, SA techniques transform a single antenna into a virtual array. We first introdu ...

We describe the experimental framework that we have developed to study the use of synthetic aperture in GNSS receivers to estimate and mitigate multipath interference. By combining the signal received by a single moving antenna during different time instan ...

This paper presents a circularly-polarized dual-band antenna for Ka-band satellite communications which operates simultaneously in both civil and military downlink (17.7-21.2 GHz) and uplink (27.5-31 GHz) bands. The antenna is composed of a metallic ridged ...

We propose a method for designing phased-arrays according to a given, analytically-specified, target beamshape. Building on the flexibeam framework, antenna locations are sampled from a probabilistic density function. Naturally scalable with the number of ...

Optical nanoantennas have a great potential for enhancing light-matter interactions at the nanometer scale, yet fabrication accuracy and lack of scalability currently limit ultimate antenna performance and applications. In most designs, the region of maxim ...
