In the past twenty years, far-reaching studies of molecular and cellular processes have reached a milestone in their maturation, and the knowledge from these studies was ready to apply at higher organizational levels. At that time, rodent models were long ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging is a galvanizing tool for behavioral scientists. It provides a means by which to see what the brain does while a person thinks, acts, or perceives, without invasive procedures. In this, fMRI affords us a relatively eas ...

Today, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a well-established medical imaging modality thanks to its excellent soft tissue contrast. Conventional MR image contrasts can be weighted towards one or more physical properties that discriminate different tissues ...

Purpose Multichannel receive arrays provide high SNR and parallel‐imaging capabilities, while transmit‐only dipole arrays have been shown to achieve a large coverage of the whole‐brain including the cerebellum. The aim of this study was to develop and char ...

Neutron spectroscopy on the classical triangular-lattice frustrated antiferromagnet h-YMnO3 reveals diffuse, gapless magnetic excitations present both far below and above the ordering temperature. The correlation length of the excitations increases as the ...

As a basic and effective tool for explanation, prediction and decision making, causal relationships have been utilized in almost all disciplines. Traditionally, causal relationships are identified by making use of interventions or randomized controlled exp ...

Ultrasound (US) imaging is currently living a revolution. On the one hand, ultrafast US imaging, a novel way of acquiring and producing US images, has paved the way to several advanced imaging modes, e.g. shear-wave elastography, ultrafast Doppler imaging ...

Background and purpose. - Automated synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides qualitative, weighted image contrasts as well as quantitative information from one scan and is well-suited for various applications such as analysis of white matter dis ...

This thesis is composed of four studies centered on investigating cerebral metabolism using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) of hyperpolarized and non-hyperpolarized compounds at ultra-high field. In the first two chapters, we studied longitudinally t ...

Individual characterization of subjects based on their functional connectome (FC), termed “FC fingerprinting”, has become a highly sought-after goal in contemporary neuroscience research. Recent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have dem ...

Previous studies provide strong evidence for the therapeutic effect of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on different tissues including cartilage. Diverse exposure parameters applied in scientific reports and the unknown interacting mechanism of EMF with biolo ...

MR is a well-established technique routinely used in preclinical and clinical studies. This thesis focussed on the improvement of sensitivity of different methods in MR. Hyperpolarized 129Xe gas is used for studying pulmonary disease or cerebral perfusion ...

The use of 3D Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has attracted growing attention for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment planning of intraocular ocular cancers. Precise segmentation of such tumors are highly important to characterize tumors, their progres ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Surgery is the first choice therapeutic approach in case of drug-resistant epilepsy. Unfortunately, up to 43% of patients referred for presurgical assessment do not have a lesion detectable by routine 3T magnetic resonance imaging ( ...

Molecular spectroscopy is an essential experimental technique in both fundamental physical sciences and applied research. For example, electronic spectroscopy, in which light induces a change in the electronic state of a molecule, is a powerful tool for st ...

Tailoring nanoscale light concentration and electromagnetic near-field enhancement over a broad spectral range is crucial for many photonics applications such as infrared spectroscopy, photodetection, and light harvesting. So far, broadband light enhanceme ...

Magnetic resonance resonance (MRI) is a widely used modality to obtain in vivo tissue information. Clinical applications are near countless, and almost all body parts can be examined using an MR scanner. As the method is non invasive, does not use ionizing ...

PURPOSE: To develop a novel approach for head motion and B0 field monitoring based on tracking discrete off-resonance markers with three spokes (trackDOTS). METHODS: Small markers filled with acetic acid were built and attached to a head cap. Marker positi ...

Radiofrequency (RF) coils are key components of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems. The primary purpose of this review is to provide a basic theory of RF coil designs and their characterization by bench measurements, electromagnetic field simulations ...

Recovering the distribution from multi-echo magnetic resonance (MR) signals is challenging but has high potential as it provides biomarkers characterizing the tissue micro-structure, such as the myelin water fraction (MWF). In this work, we propose to comb ...
