We have investigated the cosmological constraints that can be expected from measurement of the cross-correlation of galaxies with cosmic voids identified in the Euclid spectroscopic survey, which will include spectroscopic information for tens of millions ...

Millions of quasar spectra will be collected by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), leading to a fourfold increase in the number of known quasars. High-accuracy quasar classification is essential to tighten constraints on cosmological paramete ...

The millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency band is becoming very interesting over the past years because it provides the opportunity to operate using large bandwidths which are not available at lower frequencies. This enables new communication standards suppor ...

The topic of this thesis is the development of new algorithmic reconstruction methods for quantitative phase imaging (QPI). In the past decade, advanced QPI has emerged as a valuable tool to study label-free biological samples and uncover their 3D structur ...

Eccentricity has emerged as a potentially useful tool for helping to identify the origin of black hole mergers. However, eccentric templates can be computationally very expensive owing to the large number of harmonics, making statistical analyses to distin ...

We present the Emission Line Galaxy (ELG) sample of the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV Data Release 16. We describe the observations and redshift measurement for the 269 243 observed ELG spectra, and t ...

Access to healthcare is a requirement for human well-being that is constrained, in part, by the allocation of healthcare resources relative to the geographically dispersed human population(1-3). Quantifying access to care globally is challenging due to the ...

A distributed and dynamic strain sensing system based on frequency-scanning phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometry is proposed and demonstrated. By utilizing an RF pulse scheme with a fast arbitrary waveform generator, a train of optical pulses ...

This thesis presents results of a research on applications of Brillouin dynamic gratings - distributed reflectors that can be dynamically created in an optical fibre by two optical waves. A basic theory of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is introduce ...

Cosmic microwave background (CMB) studies require observations in several frequency bands simultaneously. For example, the detection of clusters of remote galaxies can be performed by comparing CMB photon fluxes at different frequencies, using the spectral ...

We have constructed the first all-sky map of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect by applying specifically tailored component separation algorithms to the 100 to 857 GHz frequency channel maps from the Planck survey. This map shows an obvious galaxy ...

Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) offer the potential to revolutionize fundamental methods employed for signal processing in today's telecommunication systems,1-4 owing to their spectral purity and the prospect of integration with existing technology. I ...

We report on how visual realism might influence map-based route learning performance in a controlled laboratory experiment with 104 male participants in a competitive context. Using animations of a dot moving through routes of interest, we find that partic ...

While small scale ORCs are currently dominated by volumetric expanders, the use of turbomachines is reconsidered due to their high efficiency and power density. Yet, suitable performance maps, which ensure an accurate starting point for the turbine design, ...

Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences known to humanity. We have been studying celestial objects for millennia, and continue to peer deeper into space in our thirst for knowledge about our origins and the universe that surrounds us. Radio astronomy -- ob ...

The performance monitoring of computer systems is a complex affair, made even more challenging by the increasing gap between hardware and software. Methods that collect and feed data to performance analysis can usually be classified into one of two groups. ...

Scaled microelectromechanical (MEMS) resonating devices have generated a great interest for their use in RF front-end architectures for wireless communication, channel-select filters, on-chip signal processing and timing and extreme mas sensing application ...

The papers in this special issue are intended to address some of the main research challenges in Graph Signal Processing by presenting a collection of the latest advances in the domain. These papers examine key representation, learning and processing aspec ...

Chiral magnets with topologically nontrivial spin order such as Skyrmions have generated enormous interest in both fundamental and applied sciences. We report broadband microwave spectroscopy performed on the insulating chiral ferrimagnet Cu2OSeO3. For the ...

Time-correlated single photon counting techniques have recently established themselves in numerous fields of research. In particular, for fluorescence lifetime imaging, time-correlated single photon counting is often considered the absolute reference in te ...
