Multiply excited states in semiconductor quantum dots feature intriguing physics and play a crucial role in nanocrystal-based technologies. While photoluminescence provides a natural probe to investigate these states, room-temperature single-particle spect ...

At the outermost surface of colloidal QDs are organic surface ligands which dynamically bind and release in solution to control the growth kinetics, control the size/shape of the crystals, passivate surface states, and provide colloidal stability through f ...

Supramolecular assemblies from organic dyes forming J-aggregates are known to exhibit narrowband photoluminescence with full-width at half maximum of approximate to 9 nm (260 cm(-1)). Applications of these high color purity emitters, however, are hampered ...

Natural foundations defining the manner in which a solid material interacts with optical radiation are primarily encoded in the material's momentum-dependent band structure and the microscopic details of the electron-lattice interactions. An access to this ...

As quantum processors grow in complexity, attention is moving to the scaling prospects of the entire quantum computing system, including the classical support hardware. Recent results in high-fidelity control of individual spins in silicon, combined with d ...

Whereas electron-phonon scattering relaxes the electron's momentum in metals, a perpetual exchange of momentum between phonons and electrons may conserve total momentum and lead to a coupled electron-phonon liquid. Such a phase of matter could be a platfor ...

Photoelectrochemical water splitting is a promising source of clean, renewable fuel in the form of hydrogen. Despite extensive research endeavors, the widespread adoption of this technology is impeded due to suboptimal catalysts for the oxygen evolution re ...

Lead halide perovskites exhibit great potential for light-emitting devices. Enhanced photoluminescence (PL) is obtained in perovskite materials of reduced dimensionalities due to the large exciton binding energy. However, as the nanocrystal size is reduced ...

In a seminal paper, Mahan predicted that excitonic bound states can still exist in a semiconductor at electron-hole densities above the insulator-to-metal Mott transition. However, no clear evidence for this exotic quasiparticle, dubbed Mahan exciton, exis ...

Two-dimensional (2D) crystals such as graphene or transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are a fascinating class of quantum materials. These compounds are obtained isolating the single atomic sheets that normally form bulk layered crystals, and the reduc ...

Quantum dots (QDs) formed in semiconductor nanowires (NWs) form a basis for studying interesting quantum phenomena and provide an exciting platform for various device applications, where in-depth understanding of the formation and electronic properties of ...
