Limestone calcined-clay cements (LC3) take advantage of the synergetic effects of calcium carbonate reaction with the additional aluminium provided by the calcined clay. As temperature decreases, calcium carbonate solubility increase, therefore, the early- ...

This paper examines the possibility of the use of some clays calcined from Nigeria as partial substitutes for clinker in the production of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). The clays were calcined in the oven at a temperature of 800 degrees C and for o ...

In this paper, two durability issues: Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) and external sulfate attack were studied. The results of expansion were presented for a Normal Portland cement and a blended cement LC3 containing calcined clay and limestone as supplementa ...

Limestone calcined clay cements (LC3) are blended cements that combine clinker, limestone, calcined clay and gypsum. The availability of the materials required to produce LC3 and the good performance that it achieves, makes LC3 suitable as a sustainable re ...

In this study, the influence of the calcined kaolinite content of calcined clay on the hydration of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3-50) is investigated. It is shown that with the increase of the calcined kaolinite content of the calcined clay, the clin ...

The amount of reacted metakaolin is determined using two methods: mass balance and thermodynamic modeling. It is found that mass balance is the most promising method. Thermodynamic modeling gives slightly underestimated results at late ages. ...

Partial replacement of clinker with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) is an effective approach to reduce CO2 emissions related to cement production. However, there is a maximum substitution level with SCMs beyond which strength decreases. The und ...

This study aims to investigate the change with temperature of the water content of the C-(A)-S-H of plain cement (PC) and Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). The water content was determined by various methods: thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), H-1-nucle ...

The durability of mortar and paste mixtures with respect to chloride ion ingress was investigated for binary blends of Portland Cement Calcined Clay, and ternary systems of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). Five clays from various sources with differen ...

Treatment by accelerated carbonation has been widely studied to enhance the quality of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and hence the performance of new concrete produced with the RCA. This is often ascribed to the densification of RCA. This study invest ...

The use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) to replace part of the clinker in cement is the most successful strategy to reduce CO2 emissions in the global cement industry. However, limited supplies of conventional SCMs make it difficult to take ...

This paper looks at the study of intergrinding for the production of ternary cement based on clinker, calcined clay, limestone and gypsum with 50% of clinker substitution (LC3). The impact of grinding time on clinker, limestone and calcined clay PSD, and h ...

The high solution to solid ratio normally used for the measurement of chloride binding isotherms, leads to a leaching of ions and a decrease of pH. To make binding test more representative of on-site conditions, we investigated the influence of the increas ...

The impact of alkali content on the properties of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) was investigated in this study. KOH was added in order to increase the alkali content of the blended cements from 0.44% Na2Oeq to 1.21% Na2Oeq. The increase of alkali ac ...
