The use of integral mechanical attachments (IMAs) in spatial free-form timber plate structures has been revitalized by the production of engineered boards and recent developments in digital fabrication and computer-aided design. Despite the widespread inte ...

Hydropower plant units operating in off-design conditions are subject to cavitation flow instabilities, potentially inducing hydro-acoustic resonances under certain conditions. They can be predicted by using one-dimensional numerical models of hydropower p ...

The massive penetration of the electrical network by renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, pushes the operators to extend hydropower plant units operating range to meet the transmission system operator requirements. However, in off-design opera ...

The urban context is often simplified or neglected in Building Energy Models (BEMs) due to the difficulties of taking accurately into account all the heat fluxes emanating from the environment. Oversimplifying the urban context can impact the accuracy of t ...

To meet the electrical grid's demand on pump power variation, GE Renewable Energy develops since 10 years variable speed machines (also called Doubly Fed Induction Generators or DFIG). Within turbogenerators, the phenomenon of circulating currents in Roebe ...

Building utilization can be enhanced by tracking occupants. Non-intrusive tracking of occupants using floor-vibration measurements is beneficial for many smart-building applications such as energy consumption, security enhancement, and care-giving. Also, u ...

Displacement data modelling is of great importance for the safety control of concrete dams. The commonly used artificial intelligence method modelled the displacement data at each monitoring point individually, i.e., the data correlations between the monit ...

In the past two decades, the use of ontologies has been proven to be an effective tool for enriching existing information systems in the digital data modelling domain and exploiting those assets for semantic interoperability. With the rise of Industry 4.0, ...

Assessing seismic vulnerability at large scales requires accurate attribution of individual buildings to more general typological classes that are representative of the seismic behavior of the buildings sharing same attributes. One-by-one evaluation of all ...
