We study quantifiers and interpolation properties in ortho- logic, a non-distributive weakening of classical logic that is sound for formula validity with respect to classical logic, yet has a quadratic-time decision procedure. We present a sequent-based p ...

Using quantum Monte Carlo simulations and field-theory arguments, we study the fully frustrated transversefield Ising model on the square lattice for the purpose of quantitatively relating two different order parameters to each other. We consider a "primar ...

We microscopically analyze the nearest-neighbor Heisenberg model on the maple leaf lattice through neural quantum state (NQS) and infinite density matrix renormalization group (iDMRG) methods. Embarking to parameter regimes beyond the exact dimer singlet g ...

Phase transitions in condensed matter are a source of exotic emergent properties. We study the fully frustrated bilayer Heisenberg antiferromagnet to demonstrate that an applied magnetic field creates a previously unknown emergent criticality. The quantum ...

The goal of this thesis is the development and the analysis of numerical methods for problems where the unknown is a curve on a smooth manifold. In particular, the thesis is structured around the three following problems: homotopy continuation, curve inter ...

Detailed chemical abundances of very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H] < -2) stars are important for better understanding the first stars, early star formation, and chemical enrichment of galaxies. Big on-going and coming high-resolution spectroscopic surveys provid ...

This paper focuses on over-parameterized deep neural networks (DNNs) with ReLU activation functions and proves that when the data distribution is well-separated, DNNs can achieve Bayesoptimal test error for classification while obtaining (nearly) zero-trai ...

We study the performance of Markov chains for the q-state ferromagnetic Potts model on random regular graphs. While the cases of the grid and the complete graph are by now well-understood, the case of random regular graphs has resisted a detailed analysis ...

We investigate the nature of the phase transitions in the quantum Ashkin-Teller chain in the presence of chiral perturbations. We locate the Lifshitz line separating a region of direct chiral transitions from the region where the transition is through an i ...

Fetal brain diffusion magnetic resonance images (MRI) are often acquired with a lower through-plane than in-plane resolution. This anisotropy is often overcome by classical upsampling methods such as linear or cubic interpolation. In this work, we employ a ...

We investigate the properties of a frustrated spin-5/2 chain with next-nearest-neighbor two- and three-site interactions, with two questions in mind: the nature of the transition into the dimerized phase induced by the three-site interaction, and the possi ...

We obtain new Fourier interpolation and uniqueness results in all dimensions, extending methods and results by the first author and M. Sousa [11] and the second author [12]. We show that the only Schwartz function which, together with its Fourier transform ...

In this paper we study a fully connected planted spin glass named the planted XY model. Motivation for studying this system comes both from the spin glass field and the one of statistical inference where it models the angular synchronization problem. We de ...

This thesis is motivated by recent experiments on systems described by extensions of the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising (TFI) model where (1) finite-size properties of Ising-ordered phases -- specifically, ground state level crossings -- were obser ...

We investigate the classical chiral Ashkin-Teller model on a square lattice with the corner transfer matrix renormalization group algorithm. We show that the melting of the period-4 phase in the presence of a chiral perturbation takes different forms depen ...

Using the corner-transfer matrix renormalization group to contract the tensor network that describes its partition function, we investigate the nature of the phase transitions of the hard-square model, one of the exactly solved models of statistical physic ...

The recently synthesized Ag3LiIr2O6 has been proposed as a Kitaev magnet in proximity to the quantum spin liquid phase. We explore its microscopic Hamiltonian and magnetic ground state using many-body quantum chemistry methods and exact diagonalization tec ...

In several machine learning settings, the data of interest are well described by graphs. Examples include data pertaining to transportation networks or social networks. Further, biological data, such as proteins or molecules, lend themselves well to graph- ...

The spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on the pyrochlore lattice is an iconic frustrated three-dimensional spin system with a rich phase diagram. Besides hosting several ordered phases, the model is debated to possess a spin-liquid ground state when only nearest-ne ...

, we have edges

\langle(x,i),(y,i)\rangle
