The recent geopolitical conflicts in Europe have underscored the vulnerability of the current energy system to the volatility of energy carrier prices. In the prospect of defining robust energy systems ensuring sustainable energy supply in the future, the ...

A plethora of real world problems consist of a number of agents that interact, learn, cooperate, coordinate, and compete with others in ever more complex environments. Examples include autonomous vehicles, robotic agents, intelligent infrastructure, IoT de ...

This paper introduces a new algorithm for consensus optimization in a multi-agent network, where all agents collaboratively find a minimizer for the sum of their private functions. All decentralized algorithms rely on communications between adjacent nodes. ...

Real-time video transcoding has recently raised as a valid alternative to address the ever-increasing demand for video contents in servers' infrastructures in current multi-user environments. High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) makes efficient online trans ...

This paper presents a coordinated primal-dual interior point (PDIP) method for solving structured convex linear and quadratic programs (LP-QP) in a distributed man- ner. The considered class of problems represents a multi-agent setting, where the aggregate ...

In this paper we demonstrate how agent-based modelling can be used to understand the emergence of a new infrastructure system, more specifically, a biogas infrastructure in the Netherlands. The innovative element in our modelling approach is the use of MAI ...

Decision making and planning with partial state information is a problem faced by all forms of intelligent entities. The formulation of a problem under partial state information leads to an exorbitant set of choices with associated probabilistic outcomes m ...

Some of the next generation massive spectroscopic survey projects, plan to use thousands of fiber positioner robots packed at a focal plane to quickly move in parallel the fiber-ends from the previous to the next target points. The most direct trajectories ...

We analyze resource allocation problems where N independent agents want to access C resources. Each resource can be only accessed by one agent at a time. In order to use the resources efficiently, the agents need to coordinate their access. We focus on dec ...

In this paper, the decentralized coordination of point-mass autonomous vehicles at intersections using navigation functions is considered. As main contribution, the inertia of the vehicles is taken into account to enable on-board energy optimization for cr ...

Today's supply networks consist of a certain amount of logistics objects that are enabled to interact with each other and to decide autonomously upon their next steps: in other words, they exhibit a certain degree of autonomous cooperation. Therefore, mode ...

This thesis describes the development of three conceptual models built to serve as decision support tools in liberalised electricity markets. The introduction of competition, higher uncertainty and decentralised planning requires new planning and analysis ...

The liberalization of the electricity supply industry has shifted the analyses and modelling activities from planning to operation. However, project studies and investment appraisal still require medium and long-term anticipation of the electricity market ...
