This paper describes the extensive progress that has been made in the understanding of tokamak pedestal physics since the 2007 publication of 'Progress in the ITER Physics Basis' (Ikeda 2007 Nucl. Fusion 47 E01-S500). It serves as Chapter 3 of the 2025 Nuc ...

High amplitude energetic particle geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) oscillations driven by Neutral Beam (NBI) injected in the direction counter to the toroidal plasma current are observed in the TCV tokamak. The modes appear at frequencies close to the geodesi ...

An upgrade of the Tokamak à Chauffage Alfvén Brésilien (TCABR) is being designed to make it capable of creating a well controlled environment where the impact of resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) fields on edge localised modes can be addressed over a wi ...

Tokamaks are experimental nuclear fusion reactors that exploit magnetic-field-generating coils to confine a plasma. In these devices, plasma shape control is crucial to achieving high performance and pursuing challenging scientific objectives. With its lar ...

Experiments on ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) in 2021 and 2022 have addressed a number of critical issues for ITER and EU DEMO. A major objective of the AUG programme is to shed light on the underlying physics of confinement, stability, and plasma exhaust in order to ...

Nonlinear simulations of Alfvén modes (AMs) driven by energetic particles (EPs) in the presence of turbulence are performed with the gyrokinetic particle-in-cell code ORB5. The AMs carry a heat flux, and consequently they nonlinearly modify the plasma temp ...

The neutral beam injectors of the ITER experiment will rely on negative ion sources to produce 16.7 MW beams of H/D particles accelerated at 1 MeV. The prototype of these sources was built and is currently operated in the SPIDER (Source for the Production ...
