Wireless communications are currently faced with two main challenges. The first challenge stems from the enormous number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices that transmit very small amounts of data. The second challenge is the need for ever-increasing data ...

This work presents an ADC-bascd receiver (RX) data-path for frame-based PAM-4 modulation with a cyclic prefix (CP). Similar to discrete multi-tone (DMT) modulation, a frame of PAM-4 symbols arc protected from the channel delay spread by the CP taps. A PAM- ...

Over the last few years, residential and enterprise networking have faced several challenges due to the increasing demand of users for high-throughput connectivity. As a result, efforts are being made to improve coverage, throughput, and robustness. Severa ...

Aside from intentional interference, multipath is the most significant error source for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receivers in many operational scenarios. In this thesis, we study the multipath estimation from two different perspectives: t ...

A time-division multiplexing (TDM) digital channel coding scheme with inter-symbol interference (ICI) reduction property for multi-drop memory interfaces has been proposed. Shaping the TX spectrum to avoid channel frequency notches, the proposed digital TD ...

The Frequency Modulated Ultra-Wideband (FM-UWB) is known as a low-power, low-complexity modulation scheme targeting low to moderate data rates in applications such as wireless body area networks. In this paper, a thorough review of all FM-UWB receivers and ...

A time-division multiplexing (TDM) digital channel coding scheme for wireline multi-drop interfaces has been proposed. Shaping the TX spectrum to avoid channel frequency notches, the proposed digital TDM signaling reduces inter-symbol interference (ISI) an ...

This paper presents the design and analysis of a serial link transceiver (TRX) architecture employing analog multi-tone (AMT) signaling for chip-to-chip communication. Multi-tone single-sideband (SSB) signaling scheme is proposed in TRX architecture in ord ...

While wireless communication has become an ubiquitous part of our daily life and the world around us, it has not been able yet to deliver the multi-gigabit throughput required for applications like high-definition video transmission or cellular backhaul co ...

The steady growth of capacity demand in telecommunication networks has sparked the development of various photonic devices for ultrafast optical signal processing functions to meet the requirements of future flexible fiber networks in general and backbone ...

A new achievable rate region is given for the Gaussian cognitive many-to-one interference channel. The proposed novel coding scheme is based on the compute-and-forward approach with lattice codes. Using the idea of decoding sums of codewords, our scheme im ...

We consider the problem of estimating sparse communication channels in the MIMO context. In small to medium bandwidth communications, as in the current standards for OFDM and CDMA communication systems (with bandwidth up to 20 MHz), such channels are indiv ...

Minimally invasive monitoring of the electrical activity of specific cortical areas using implantable microsystems offers the promise of diagnosing neurological diseases, as well as detecting and identifying neural activity patterns which are specific to a ...

In sensor networks and communication systems, one is often confronted with sampling multiple sparse signals having a common support set. Multipath channels in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication setting is an interesting example ...

This thesis evaluates the potential of Ultra Wideband Impulse Radio for wireless sensor network applications. Wireless sensor networks are collections of small electronic devices composed of one or more sensors to acquire information on their environment, ...

Parallel frequency readout of an array of cantilevers is demonstrated using optical beam deflection with a single laser-diode pair. Multi-frequency addressing makes the individual nanomechanical response of each cantilever distinguishable within the receiv ...

Recent results have shown that interference alignment can achieve K/2 degrees of freedom in a K-user interference channel with time or frequency varying channel coefficients. For fixed number of users K, the number of degrees of freedom characterizes the a ...

We introduce the interference-multiple-access channel, which is a discrete memoryless channel with two transmitters and two receivers, similar to the interference channel. One receiver is required to decode the information encoded at one transmitter, the o ...

Designs for transmit alphabet constrained space-time codes naturally lead to questions about the design of rank distance codes. Recently, diversity embedded multi-level space-time codes for flat fading channels have been designed from sets of binary matric ...
