Iron-exchanged zeolites are industrial heterogeneous catalysts deployed to remediate anthropogenic emissions of both nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitrogen oxides (NOx = NO + NO2). Despite the extensive scientific attention received, limited knowledge is availab ...

Nuclear fusion presents a promising clean energy source to mitigate future energy crises, with magnetic confinement fusion well-positioned to provide a baseload scenario to power future reactors. The unmitigated power exhaust of such reactors threatens its ...

The transition towards clean renewable energy sources, where wind and solar are prone to variation, requires adequate energy storage. Power-to-methane (PtM) systems can be part of the solution. Specifically, solid-oxide-electrolyser (SOE) based PtM systems ...

The challenge of power exhaust of the high heat and particle fluxes foreseen for ITER and the forthcoming nuclear fusion reactors can be mitigated by operating in a detached divertor regime. This regime has been the object of three decades of studies, as i ...

The current study performs the thermodynamic and life-cycle assessments (LCA) of a novel charging station in two system designs. The goal is to design an efficient charging station for electric vehicles with high efficiencies and low environmental impacts ...

The heat transfer performance of commercially produced micro-enhanced tubes with and without a nanocoating was investigated under pool boiling of saturated refrigerant. These multiscale enhancements were on the outside of 19 mm horizontal copper tubes heat ...

The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is among the technologies applied to exploit waste heat in vehicles. Since common organic fluids have lower latent heat than water, higher mass flow rates are required to convert the same waste heat, considerably incr ...

A new electrically driven gas booster is described as an alternative to the classical air-driven gas boosters known for their poor energetic efficiency. These boosters are used in small scale Hydrogen storage facilities and in refueling stations for Hydrog ...

Systematic extraction of locally valid dynamic models from experiments is necessary for controller design and the validation of high fidelity models. This paper describes the extraction of a dynamic model in the form of a transfer function, giving the dyna ...

Monomeric Fe species in zeolites are considered to be the active sites for the low temperature activity toward ammonia-assisted selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NH3-SCR) in exhaust gases. Herein, we report on a preparation method to synthe ...

Natural gas (NG) is a suitable alternative to gasoline and diesel fuels to decrease the carbon footprint of the mobility and energy sectors. Although NG is considered a fossil fuel, methane (CH4), its main component, can be produced industrially from power ...

The global warming potential (GWP) of working fluids in thermodynamic cycles and their environmental impact have been gaining considerable attention within the recent years. The global objectives on climate protection are becoming increasingly ambitious, w ...

Electrification of the energy section, from generation to end-use, plays an essential role in reducing global CO2 emission. Innovations in power electronics are required to increase conversion efficiency and power density. Gallium nitride (GaN) transistors ...

To curb the severe effects of climate change, our society needs to radically reduce its CO2 footprint. For the heavy-duty sector, where electrification is difficult, alternative fuels can be the solution. Methane-fueled engines have lower energy-specific C ...

Substantial power dissipation in the edge plasma is required for the safe operation of ITER and next-step fusion reactors, otherwise unmitigated heat fluxes at the divertor plasma-facing components (PFCs) would easily exceed their material limits. Traditio ...

A double-null configuration is being considered for the EU-DEMO, due to its potential benefits for power exhaust arising from the use of two active divertors and magnetically disconnected low- and high-field sides. Using systematic parameter scans in fluid ...

Divertor detachment and alternative divertor magnetic geometries are predicted to be promising approaches to handle the power exhaust of future fusion devices. In order to understand the detachment process caused by volumetric losses in alternative diverto ...

This study evaluates two different scenarios of an integrated system to generate electricity for a charging station using proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). To improve the efficiency, the exhaust heat of these two ...

High-energy physics (HEP) experiments and space missions share a common challenge: thermal management in harsh environments. The severe constraints in both fields make cooling of electronic components a major design concern. This thesis aims to develop hig ...

With the future decarbonization of the electricity production, gas turbines will be an important tool for the stabilization of the electricity grid by meeting the peak of energy demand using zero-carbon fuels like synthetic gas and hydrogen. The combustion ...
