We demonstrate a wafer-scale lithium tantalate photonic platform with loss as low as 5.5 dB m(-1). Mach-Zehnder modulators with a 40 GHz electro-optical bandwidth and a 1.96 V center dot cm voltage-length product, along with microresonators supporting diss ...

Polymer optical fibers (POFs) are an essential component of photonic textile sensors for the development of healthcare@home technologies. However, fabricating tailored POFs exhibiting the required properties for such applications remains challenging. Here, ...

Nowadays electrical energy generation is an important topic discussed in the society. Since technologies like wind or solar energy generation are most of the time placed far away from the city centres one point to focus on is the transmission of the energy ...

The tilted head race track coils of the EDIPO test facility are wound with cable-in-conduit conductors made by high current density Nb3Sn strands, Jc = 2400 A/mm2 at 12 T – 4.2 K. Since the commissioning of the coils, frequent voltage spikes were observed ...

Due to the significant shear forces developing around columns and the potential brittle failure associated, the punching capacity of flat slabs is the main concern at ultimate limit state. An effective way to understand the behaviour of slab-column connect ...

In spring 2013, the Edipo facility of CRPP was commissioned. The dipole is powered via two 18 kA HTS current leads, designed and manufactured at CRPP. As part of the Edipo commissioning framework, the operational parameters of the leads were implemented in ...

Superconducting resonators are widely used in fields spanning from quantum computing to electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. With the goal of realizing superconducting resonators, a broad variety and combination of superconducting materials, substra ...

In this paper we demonstrate how the use of frequencies ranging from 50 kHz to 5 GHz in the analysis of cells by electrorotation can open the path to the identification of differences not detectable by conventional set-ups. Earlier works usually reported e ...

We discuss the transmission line (TL) theory and its application to the problem of lightning electromagnetic field coupling to TLs. We start with the derivation of the general field-to-TL coupling equations for the case of a single-wire line above a perfec ...

In the domain of electronic devices and especially desktop peripherals, there is an industrial trend which consists in removing the cables that pollute our domestic and professional environments. In this sense, wireless communication protocols are already ...

We present a numerical assessment of the thermal-hydraulic performance of the NbTi bus bars designed for the European DEMO. We consider the CS, TF and PF bus bars, as well as two alternative TF options for high-current operations. The main sources of stati ...

This paper demonstrates the capability of locally resonant metamaterials (LRMs) for creating compact metallic waveguide E- and H-bends, which are simultaneously working as bandpass filters. For creating these bent meta-filters, we use composite pin-pipe wa ...

The shear resistance of headed studs is of paramount importance for the design of steel-concrete composite structures and an accurate predictive model is highly needed. Ensemble learning is expected to be a powerful solution while it relies on laborious se ...

Methane (CH4) has the prospective of becoming one of the major energy carriers for heavy-duty mobility, but its catalytic abatement remains a challenge. CH4 abatement reaction pathways were analyzed using targeted periodic lean/rich oscillations, which res ...

Nowadays, with the increased interest in applications dealing with high-power medium-voltage conversion, there is a strong need to master the design of medium-frequency transformers, which are one of the key components of modern DC transformers. The paper ...

Lightning strikes can seriously affect the reliability and availability of electrical infrastructures. The computation of lightning-electromagnetic fields represents one of the most crucial steps in the evaluation of the induced effects; thus, having at di ...

A correct representation of the lightning current is crucial when the electromagnetic field radiated to a point of interest has to be computed. Based on the engineering models of Transmission Line type, such representation involves the knowledge of the ret ...

In recent years, numerous measurement techniques have been employed to characterize surface textures in the micrometer and nanometer range. Although these techniques have enabled significant advances in surface metrology, larger surface details are not eas ...

This study focuses on the effects of ozonation on the optical and photochemical properties of dissolved organic matter (DOM). Upon ozonation, a decrease in light absorption properties of DOM was observed concomitantly with a large increase in singlet oxyge ...
