This study introduces a novel frequency-based data-driven controller for adaptive optics, using power spectral density for optimization while ensuring stability criteria. It addresses disturbance rejection, command amplitude constraints and system transfer ...

Stochastic Nonlinear Optimal Control (SNOC) involves minimizing a cost function that averages out the random uncertainties affecting the dynamics of nonlinear systems. For tractability reasons, this problem is typically addressed by minimizing an empirical ...

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive intervention for the treatment of severe aortic valve stenosis. The main cause of failure is the structural deterioration of the implanted prosthetic leaflets, possibly inducing a valvu ...

This paper proposes a scalable stochastic optimization model and a Markov chain-based scenario generation method to benefit from an active distribution network's (ADN's) flexibility. The optimization variables are the dispatch plan, such as the active and ...

Inferring the source of a diffusion in a large network of agents is a difficult but feasible task, if a few agents act as sensors revealing the time at which they got hit by the diffusion. One of the main limitations of current source identification algori ...

We present a method to maintain the subjective perception of volume of audio signals and, at the same time, reduce their absolute peak value. We focus on achieving this without compromising the perceived audio quality. This is specially useful, for example ...

Gain-cell-embedded DRAM (GC-eDRAM) is an attractive alternative to traditional 6T SRAM, as it offers higher density, lower leakage power, and two-ported functionality. However, its refresh requirement also results in power consumption and memory access lim ...

We demonstrate operation of a tunable mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser, based on a wavelength-selective chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG). By applying strain to the CFBG, we shift its reflection band and can thereby tune the emission-wavelength of th ...

Energy geostructures (EGs) represent an innovative technology in the sustainable energy agenda and are useful for satisfying the energy needs of the built environment. They are usually involving geostructures such as piles, walls, tunnels, shafts, and sewe ...

A new version of GBS (Ricci et al. (2012) [27]; Halpern et al. J. Comput. Phys. 315 (2016) 388-408; Paruta et al. (2018) [11]) is described. GBS is a three-dimensional, fluxdriven, global, two-fluid turbulence code developed for the self-consistent simulat ...

Reed-Muller (RM) codes are among the oldest, simplest and perhaps most ubiquitous family of codes. They are used in many areas of coding theory in both electrical engineering and computer science. Yet, many of their important properties are still under inv ...

We present optofluidic label-free biosensors leveraging high quality-factor resonances emanated from bound-states-in-the-continuum and novel data processing. The sensors are based on imaging and offer solutions to remove sophisticated spectroscopy instrume ...

We employ the Cu-MOF-74 framework for the separation of a propane/propylene mixed stream. Performing single and binary component breakthrough experiments demonstrates that this framework has a greater capacity and affinity for propylene relative to propane ...

The possibility of using the increasing computing power available in cloud infrastructures requires the development of new approaches for application software development and optimization. Emerging edge computing paradigms offer the possibility of reducing ...

We present a theoretical and numerical model to show how the nonreciprocal coupling in a generalized resonator affects the balance between the reflected and intracavity power as well as the time-bandwidth product of the system. (C) 2020 The Author(s) ...

We prove that transactions cannot be fast in an asynchronous fault-tolerant system. Our result holds in any system where we require transactions to ensure monotonic writes, or any stronger consistency model, such as, causal consistency. Thus, our result un ...
