We discuss two extensions to a recently introduced theory of arrays, which are based on considerations coming from the model theory of power structures. First, we discuss how the ordering relation on the index set can be expressed succinctly by referring t ...

Thermonanophotonics, that is the study of photothermal effects in optical nanoantennas, has recently attracted growing interest. In particular, going beyond thermoplasmonic designs, thermo-optical modulation of dielectric nanoantennas opens new opportuniti ...

Background and objective The automated detection of atrial activations (AAs) recorded from intracardiac electrograms (IEGMs) during atrial fibrillation (AF) is challenging considering their various amplitudes, morphologies and cycle length. Activation time ...

The present invention proposes a method for producing an authenticable moiré shape that simultaneously moves and shows a beating effect. The method relies on a combination of the 1D or the 2D moiré and the level line moiré. When tilting a compound showing ...

Background: Signal processing tools are required to efficiently analyze data collected in body-surface-potential map (BSPM) recordings. A limited number of such tools exist for studying persistent atrial fibrillation (persAF). We propose two novel, spatiot ...

The JET ILA is an Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH) antenna composed of four resonant double loops (RDLs) arranged in a 2 toroidal by 2 poloidal compact array. It has been operated in a range of frequencies from 29 to 51 MHz, but mostly on half array. ...

A capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) array with dual-mixed radii is designed to improve bandwidth and realize multi-modes operating for immersed ultrasonic applications. The two-size (TS) CMUT array is composed of two sub-arrays with d ...

Diffractive optical elements are ultra-thin optical components required for a variety of applications because of their high design flexibility. We introduce a gradient-based optimization method based on a step-transition perturbation approach which is an e ...

Poor decisions and selfish behaviors give rise to seemingly intractable global problems, such as the lack of transparency in democratic processes, the spread of conspiracy theories, and the rise in greenhouse gas emissions. However, people are more predict ...

The present invention relates to a multispectral image sensor having a pixel array for detecting images with light components in different wavelength ranges, comprising a plurality of imaging layers each embedded in a semiconductor substrate, wherein in ea ...

New types of metamaterials and architectured material require metallic materials with precise structural design in the microscale. However, additivemanufacturing of metallic structures in themicroscale has proven difficult, as the demand for the material q ...

The emergence of Big Data has enabled new research perspectives in the discrete choice community. While the techniques to estimate Machine Learning models on a massive amount of data are well established, these have not yet been fully explored for the esti ...

Energy efficiency remains a challenge for the design of non-volatile resistive memories (ReRAMs) arrays. This memory technology suffers from intrinsic variability in switching speed, programming voltages and resistance levels. The programming conditions of ...

The Alfven Eigenmode Active Diagnostic system (AEAD) has undergone a major upgrade and redesign to provide a state-of-the-art excitation and real-time detection system for JET. The new system consists of individual 4 kW amplifiers allowing for increased cu ...

This work presents a low cost and wire-bonded active phase shifter chip to RF circuitry on PCB board packaging for implementing a two-element phased array antenna at 77 GHz. The 1.5 mm × 1.1 mm chip is embedded in RO3003 PCB board and its GSG ports are wir ...

The central task in many interactive machine learning systems can be formalized as the sequential optimization of a black-box function. Bayesian optimization (BO) is a powerful model-based framework for \emph{adaptive} experimentation, where the primary go ...

Rapid detection and identification of bacteria is important for human health, biodefense, and food safety. Small arrays of different antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) enable the identification of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) samples from a variety of bacterial spe ...

The invention provides methods for producing arrays of organoids, the arrays thereof and uses of such arrays. ...

SPAD (single-photon avalanche diode) arrays are single-photon sensors, which enable photon counting and unparalleled time-resolved imaging. In this paper, we will detail the architecture and characteristics of three representative SPAD arrays, implemented ...

The main topics of this thesis are distributed estimation and cooperative path-following in the presence of communication constraints, with applications to autonomous marine vehicles. To this end, we study algorithms that take explicitly into account the c ...
