We introduce a skin-inspired epidermal bioelectronic patch (EBP) with unprecedented integration of graphene on silk with a facile and cost-effective fabrication process, excluding complex ink formulation. We advance the state-of-the-art by directly screen- ...

Magnetically responsive soft materials are promising building blocks for the next generation of soft robotics, prosthesis, surgical tools, and smart textiles. To date, however, the fabrication of highly integrated magnetic fibers with extreme aspect ratios ...

Metal hydrides are an interesting group of chemical compounds, able to store hydrogen in a reversible, compact and safe manner. Among them, A(2)B(7)-type intermetallic alloys based on La-Mg-Ni have attracted particular attention due to their high electroch ...

Examples for applications of nitrous oxide in organic synthesis remain rare up until today. First mayor contributions of our group were published in 2012, when nitrous oxide was successfully captured by N-heterocyclic carbenes. Subsequent studies investiga ...

Implantable devices for localized and controlled drug release are important, e.g., for therapies of cancer and chronic pain. However, most of the existing active implants are limited by the usage of nonbiodegradable materials; thus, surgery is needed to ex ...

Capillarity plays a crucial role in many natural and engineered systems, ranging from nutrient delivery in plants to functional textiles for wear comfort or thermal heat pipes for heat dissipation. Unlike nano- or microfluidic systems with well-defined por ...

Granular hydrogels with high stability, strength, and toughness are laborious to develop. Post-curing is often employed to bind microgels chemically and enhance mechanical properties. Here a unique strategy was investigated to maintain microgels together w ...

With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the emergence of 5G, traditional silicon-based electronics no longer fully meet market demands such as nonplanar application scenarios due to mechanical mismatch. This provides unprecedented op ...

The out-of-plane permeability of two glass fibre fabrics was measured by 26 institutions using silicone oil as a test fluid. Participants in this study were free to select the test procedure, specimen dimensions and data analysis method, provided that test ...

Optical fibers have reshaped the technological landscape, from optical networks and high-speed data communication to in situ imaging and non-invasive surgery methods. The revolution allowed by these fibers has been made possible by its fabrication method, ...

Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) is a cementitious composite material where a carbon or glass fabric is embedded as reinforcement. The use of TRC allows building thin and light structures, with reduced concrete covers and an enhanced durability due to the ...

Fibers that harvest mechanical energy via the triboelectric effect are excellent candidates aspower sources for wearable electronics and functional textiles. Thus far however, their fab-rication remains complex, and exhibited performances are below the sta ...

In article number 2000733 by Juergen Brugger and co‐workers, a novel composite membrane of silk fibroin, microgels and magnetic nanoparticles whose permeability can be adjusted by temperature for controlled drug release is studied. The temperature induced ...

Mechanical sensing represents a key functionality in soft electronics for applications in health monitoring, human–machine interaction, or soft robotics. Current approaches typically rely on intricate networks of sensors specific to one type of deformation ...

Additive manufacturing (AM) methods are being integrated in ceramics fabrication either as the main manufacturing tool or for auxiliary purposes. By using polymers, powders and preceramic formulated materials, AM techniques are pushing towards higher resol ...

In view of the steadily increasing number of chemical compounds used in various products and applications, high-throughput toxicity screening techniques can help meeting the needs of 21st century risk assessment. Zebrafish (Danio rerio), especially its ear ...

The rapid development of wearable sensing technology exhibits unprecedented opportunities for artificial intelligence by establishing an interactive interface between the physical and the virtual worlds. Energy preservation and multi-functional integration ...

A novel single-layer structured triboelectric generator (TEG) is proposed with a hybrid mix of carbon nanotube (CNT) and silk. Here, the mixing of two materials in liquid phase for proven effective power generation is shown. In this research, CNT provides ...

Flexible pressure sensors offer a wide application range in health monitoring and human–machine interaction. However, their implementation in functional textiles and wearable electronics is limited because existing devices are usually small, 0D elements, a ...

Here we present the new project “Indoor Chemical Human Emissions and Reactivity” (ICHEAR), which is focused on examining the role of human emissions on indoor air chemistry. The specific goal of this project is to investigate the impact of exhaled and derm ...
