This paper investigates the fracture mechanism of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (UHPFRC) using acoustic emission (AE), digital image correlation (DIC), and magnetoscopy testing. Four specimens undergo uniaxial tensile load ...

The aluminium industry emits approximately 1.1 billion tonnes of CO2-eq annually, contributing about 2% of global industrial emissions. Decarbonization pathways aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, but this requires making decisions today for technol ...

The anchorage of reinforcement in concrete is a complex phenomenon typically governed by several failure modes, including: pull-out failure, splitting, side spalling, edge wedge spalling, and corner spalling, depending on multiple factors. Extensive resear ...

The glass industry faces critical decarbonisation challenges due to high energy demand and reliance on fossil fuels. This study presents a comprehensive techno-economic analysis of diverse decarbonisation pathways for flat glass production, including elect ...

This study investigates the development of residual stresses in textured 2205 duplex stainless steel during laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (LPBF AM). In situ and operando neutron diffraction experiments were conducted to study the transient ...

Bending-active elastica beam is a structural configuration that is based on the elastic deformation of an initially straight beam. This deformation occurs when horizontal displacements are applied to a sliding support, causing the beam to bend into an arch ...

Noise measurements in light water reactor systems aid in generating validation data for integral point kinetic parameter predictions and generating monitoring parameters for reactor safety and safeguards. The CROCUS zero-power reactor has been used to supp ...

Autonomous nuclear reactor monitoring is a key aspect of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s strategy to ensure nonproliferation treaty compliance. From the rise of small modular reactor technology, decentralized nuclear reactor fleets may strain the ...

Ultra-high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite (UHPFRC) is a modern class of cementitious building materials. Because of its superior mechanical properties and durability, it is increasingly used globally to rehabilitate, strengthen and mod ...

In recent years, many efforts have been made to find alternative renewable energy sources that can ideally replace the use of fossil fuels in all aspects. One of the new emerging energy technologies is the bioelectrochemical system, of which two types are ...

Microstructural evolution during in-pile irradiation, radiation damage effects and fission products behavior in UO2 nuclear fuel are key issues in understanding and for the modeling of the performance as well as safety characteristics of nuclear fuels in t ...

The present invention relates to a compound of the general formula (I), and (II)wherein one of R11 and R12 is hydrogen and the other is -CH2-R70, and one of R13 and R14 is hydrogen and the other is -CH2-R71, or wherein one of R11 and R12 is hydrogen and th ...

Modeling the 3D internal crack under compression entails complex fracture mechanics (mode I-II-III fracture), resulting in substantial computational costs and challenges in characterizing fracture morphology characterization for Phase Field Method (PFM) si ...

Several boreholes were drilled for site comparison of a deep geological repository (DGR) in Northern Switzerland. The main target of the exploration program was the >100m thick Opalinus Clay, the designated host rock encountered at approximately 450 to 100 ...

Most codes of practice adopt a semi probabilistic design approach for the dimensioning and assessment of structures. Accordingly, structural safety is ensured by performing limit state verifications using design values determined with adequately calibrated ...

The present invention relates to a compound of the general formula (I), (II) and (III), more specifically of formula (Ia), (Ib), (Ic)wherein R11 and R12 or R21 and R22 or R31 and R32 are both hydrogen or form together with CHR50 a cyclic moiety or one of R ...

Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs), featuring reactive combinations of Lewis acids and Lewis bases, have been utilized for myriad metal-free homogeneous catalytic processes. Immobilizing the active Lewis sites to a solid support, especially to porous scaffolds, ...

The European Spallation Source (ESS), currently under construction, is based on a high -brightness, bispectral, low -dimensional moderator placed above a spallation target, intended to initially serve fifteen neutron scattering instruments. Within the upgr ...

The design and discovery of potential novel materials is critical for the advancement of climate change mitigation technologies. In this respect, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received considerable attention over the last two decades. The combinatio ...

Nuclear fusion presents a promising clean energy source to mitigate future energy crises, with magnetic confinement fusion well-positioned to provide a baseload scenario to power future reactors. The unmitigated power exhaust of such reactors threatens its ...
