Implantable bioelectronics have emerged as essential tools for interfacing with the nervous system, catalyzing novel clinical treatments and research. In the same context, neurophysiology recording systems are becoming crucial for advancing neural research, yet their high cost and complexity limit their adoption, particularly for resource-constrained education and research groups. Building on ongoing efforts to bridge this accessibility gap, we developed a versatile and affordable wireless neurophysiology recording system using commercially available materials and simple fabrication techniques. The implantable module includes a single-channel analog front-end with remotely adjustable gain and offers a battery life of over nine hours. It is housed in a cost-effective polymer capsule of 20 mm × 25 for test signals) with a bandwidth of 275-1445 Hz, a gain of 40 dB to 85 dB, and robust performance of the silicone encapsulation under accelerated aging conditions equivalent to eight months. Lastly, an in vivo pilot demonstration in a pig model allowed us to record physiological signals from the peroneal nerve, which were time-correlated with motor activity, serving as proof of the system's viability. Ultimately, by providing a fully disclosed blueprint, this work offers an accessible alternative to complex, custom-fabricated devices available on the market, effectively lowering the barrier to entry for neurophysiology research in low-budget settings.
