This thesis demonstrates that it is feasible for systems code to expose a latency interface that describes its latency and related side effects for all inputs, just like the code's semantic interface describes its functionality and related side effects. S ...

Cycles are one of the fundamental subgraph patterns and being able to enumerate them in graphs enables important applications in a wide variety of fields, including finance, biology, chemistry, and network science. However, to enable cycle enumeration in r ...

The miniaturization of integrated circuits (ICs) and their higher performance and energy efficiency, combined with new machine learning algorithms and applications, have paved the way to intelligent, interconnected edge devices. In the medical domain, they ...

We propose uBFT, the first State Machine Replication (SMR) system to achieve microsecond-scale latency in data centers, while using only 2f+1 replicas to tolerate f Byzantine failures. The Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) provided by uBFT is essential as pu ...

The demise of Moore's Law and Dennard scaling has resulted in diminishing performance gains for general-purpose processors, and so has prompted a surge in academic and commercial interest for hardware accelerators. Specialized hardware has already redefine ...

Embedded systems confront two opposite goals: low-power operation and high performance. The current trend to reach these goals is toward heterogeneous platforms, including multi-core architectures with heterogeneous cores and hardware accelerators. The lat ...

This paper introduces protocols for authenticated private information retrieval. These schemes enable a client to fetch a record from a remote database server such that (a) the server does not learn which record the client reads, and (b) the client either ...

Acoustic emission (AE) monitoring is a useful technique to monitor the health of a structure continuously, helping to prevent potential failure. AE are elastic waves produced and emitted during fracture processes inside a material and are recorded by senso ...

Modern data management systems aim to provide both cutting-edge functionality and hardware efficiency. With the advent of AI-driven data processing and the post-Moore Law era, traditional memory-bound scale-up data management operations face scalability ch ...

By supporting the access of multiple memory words at the same time, Bit-line Computing (BC) architectures allow the parallel execution of bit-wise operations in-memory. At the array periphery, arithmetic operations are then derived with little additional o ...

Recently, we published an article [1] presenting how the Power Electronics course at the bachelor level is organized by the Power Electronics Laboratory and taught at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL, Switzerland. For those avid readers who m ...
