The establishment of germ layers during early development is crucial for body formation. The Drosophila zygote serves as a model for investigating these transitions in relation to the chromatin landscape. However, the cellular heterogeneity of the blastode ...

Gut commensal bacteria promote host reproduction by modulating metabolism and nutrition, but the molecular mechanisms by which microbes regulate reproduction remain unclear. Here, we show that gut commensal bacteria promote host reproduction by providing t ...

During fear learning, associations between a sensory cue (conditioned stimulus, CS) and an aversive stimulus (unconditioned stimulus, US) are formed in specific brain circuits. The lateral amygdala (LA) is involved in CS-US integration; however, US pathway ...

Rationale: Neurons producing Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) are essential for human reproduction and have to migrate from nose to brain during prenatal life. Impaired GnRH neuron biology results in alterations of the reproductive axis, including del ...

As genome sequencing is finding utility in a wide variety of domains beyond the confines of traditional medical settings, its computational pipeline faces two significant challenges. First, the creation of up to 0.5 GB of data per minute imposes substantia ...

Contemporary genomic approaches allow us to seek answers to biological questions that were previously out of reach. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified numerous genetic polymorphisms associated with human diseases, providing new insight ...

Cell fate progression of pluripotent progenitors is strictly regulated, resulting in high human cell diversity. Epigenetic modifications also orchestrate cell fate restriction. Unveiling the epigenetic mechanisms underlying human cell diversity has been di ...

Infectious diseases are particularly challenging for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) because genetic effects from two organisms (pathogen and host) can influence a trait. Traditional GWAS assume individual samples are independent observations. Howev ...

The estimation of genetic clusters using genomic data has application from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to demographic history to polygenic risk scores (PRS) and is expected to play an important role in the analyses of increasingly diverse, large ...

Multiple System Atrophy is characterized pathologically by the accumulation of alpha-synuclein (aSyn) into glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs). The mechanism underlying the formation of GCIs is not well understood. In this study, correlative light and elec ...

Background: Clinical and translational research has identified deficits in the dopaminergic neurotransmission in the striatum in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and this could be related to the pathophysiology of psychiatric symptoms appearing even at early stage ...

The adaptation of organisms to their environment depends on the innovative potential inherent to genetic variation. In complex organisms such as mammals, processes like development and immunity require tight gene regulation. Complex forms emerge more often ...

In this article, the wrong slot blots of LASH-BL34-45 and BL 4B12 were presented in Figure 2a; the figure should have appeared as shown below. The original article has been corrected. ...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most frequent neurodegenerative disease with an increasing prevalence in industrialized, aging populations. AD susceptibility has an established genetic basis which has been the focus of a large number of genome-wide associa ...

Evolutionary diversity in species can arise in many ways, including local adaptation. Despite the global importance of tropical forest ecosystems, few studies have explored patterns of local adaptation in tropical tree species. We investigated population g ...

SARS-CoV-2 infected a large fraction of humans in the past 2 years. The clinical presentation of acute infection varies greatly between individuals, ranging from asymptomatic or mild to life-threatening COVID-19 pneumonia with multi-organ complications. De ...

The study of insular populations was key in the development of evolutionary theory. The successful colonisation of an island depends on the geographic context, and specific characteristics of the organism and the island, but also on stochastic processes. A ...

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Cancer develops through multiple hallmark functions including apoptosis evasion, unlimited replicative potential, metastasis, and immune avoidance. Over the past few decades, researchers have reported ...

There are 377 Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) domain-containing zinc finger proteins (KZFPs) in the human genome, making them the largest family of transcription factors. KZFPs are defined by a N-terminal KRAB domain and several zinc-finger domains arranged ...

Our genome is a long sequence of DNA that contains all the information to be able to constitute a living organism like us, similarly to what the letters in a book do to create a story. This sequence, which is a stretch of molecules called nucleotides, is a ...
