Gold nanoparticles protected by fluorinated ligands for F-19 MRI

Résumé

Gold nanoparticles coated with fluorinated ligands (F-MPCs) present features suitable for F-19 MRI as observed from phantom experiments. Cellular uptake, by HeLa cells, and toxicity of fluorescent dye-decorated F-MPCs are presented together with their ability to bind hydrophobic molecules allowing for a potential combination of targeting, delivery and imaging features.

Or colloïdal

L'or colloïdal est une suspension de nanoparticules d'or dans un milieu fluide qui peut être l'eau, un solvant organique ou un gel. Selon la taille et la concentration des particules en suspension, sa couleur varie du rouge vif (pour des particules de moins de 100 nanomètres), au jaunâtre (pour les particules les plus grosses). Connu depuis une époque reculée, l'or colloïdal fut à l'origine utilisé pour colorer le verre et la porcelaine. L'étude scientifique de ce mélange homogène ne débuta qu'avec les travaux de Michael Faraday dans les années 1850.

Nanoparticle–biomolecule conjugate

A nanoparticle–biomolecule conjugate is a nanoparticle with biomolecules attached to its surface. Nanoparticles are minuscule particles, typically measured in nanometers (nm), that are used in nanobiotechnology to explore the functions of biomolecules. Properties of the ultrafine particles are characterized by the components on their surfaces more so than larger structures, such as cells, due to large surface area-to-volume ratios. Large surface area-to-volume-ratios of nanoparticles optimize the potential for interactions with biomolecules.

Nanoparticule

Une nanoparticule est selon la norme ISO TS/27687 un nano-objet dont les trois dimensions sont à l'échelle nanométrique, c'est-à-dire une particule dont le diamètre nominal est inférieur à environ. D'autres définitions évoquent un assemblage d'atomes dont au moins une des dimensions se situe à l'échelle nanométrique (ce qui correspond au « nano-objet » tel que défini par la norme ISO précitée) ou insistent sur leurs propriétés nouvelles (dues au confinement quantique et à leur surface spécifique) qui n'apparaissent que pour des tailles de moins d'une centaine de nanomètres.
