ObjectivePrematurity is associated with a high risk of long-term behavioral problems. This study aimed to assess the prognostic utility of volumetric brain data at term-equivalent-age (TEA), clinical perinatal factors, and parental social economic risk in ...

Adolescent individuals exhibit great variability in cortical dynamics and behavioral outcomes. The developing adolescent brain is highly sensitive to social experiences and environmental insults, influencing how personality traits emerge. A distinct patter ...

Digital technologies reshape the way we interact with our environment, including with artworks. Advanced computational imaging solutions allow having extremely high-resolution digital reproductions of artworks outside museums, presumably increasing artwork ...

The present paper investigates the behavior of iron-based shape memory alloys (Fe-SMAs) subjected to cyclic inelastic straining by means of uniaxial coupon experiments. The tests feature round bar coupons subjected to a broad range of uniaxial cyclic strai ...

Individual characterization of subjects based on their functional connectome (FC), termed “FC fingerprinting”, has become a highly sought-after goal in contemporary neuroscience research. Recent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have dem ...

For the past twenty years, the adoption of Virtual Geographic Environments is thriving. This democratization is due to numerous new opportunities offered by this medium. However, in participatory urban planning these interactive 3D geovisualizations are st ...

Adopting healthy behaviors can prevent the onset of many adverse health conditions. However, behavior changes are difficult to make, and often, people who like to improve their behaviors do not know how to do that. Personalizable intervention systems could ...

In the context of an initiative to become a carbon neutral campus, an online survey (N = 1864) of students, scientists, and administrative and technical staff of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne) ...

Human behavior comprises many aspects that stand out by their dynamic nature. To quantify its neural underpinnings, time-resolved fMRI methods have blossomed over the past decade. In this review we conceptually organize a broad repertoire of dynamic analyt ...

This thesis presents a new methodology for computational art history, in the tradition of Distant Reading from literary criticism. This method is based on operationalisation, the transcription of a concept or theory from cultural history into an algorithm. ...

We investigate the willingness of individuals to persist at exploration in the face of failure. Prior research suggests that the organization's "tolerance for failure" may motivate greater exploration by the individual. Little is known, however, about how ...

Carry-over effects on brain states have been reported following emotional and cognitive events, persisting even during subsequent rest. Here, we investigated such effects by identifying recurring co-activation patterns (CAPs) in neural networks at rest wit ...

First impressions are critical to professional interactions, especially in service industry like hospitality. In the service industry, customers often assess quality of service based on the behavior, perceived personality, and other attributes of the front ...

Darwin is a genomics co-processor that achieved a 15000x acceleration on long read assembly through innovative hardware and algorithm co-design. Darwins algorithms and hardware implementation were specifically designed for DNA analysis pipelines. This pape ...

Tensegrity structures have non-conventional structural properties since they require self-stress in order to be stable. When a tensegrity structure integrates sensors, actuators, (structural members able to change their length) and a control system, deploy ...

Conservative models and code practices are usually employed for fatigue-damage predictions of existing structures. Direct in-service behavior measurements are able to provide more accurate estimations of remaining-fatigue-life predictions. However, these e ...

Based on a research in Lisbon, Geneva and Ljubljana, this paper aim to analyse the uses of the term “alternative” (along its formal and aesthetic registers) in order to tackle the question of the aesthetization of creativity, away from its critical dimensi ...

Stress during childhood and adolescence enhances the risk of psychopathology later in life. In fact, exposure to stress during this period is known to predispose individuals to the development of psychopathologies such as depression and anxiety disorders l ...

Stress during childhood and adolescence enhances the risk of psychopathology later in life. We have previously shown that subjecting male rats to stress during the peripubertal period induces long-lasting effects on emotion and social behaviors. As cortico ...

In this work we present a new mechatronic platform for measuring behavior of nonhuman primates, allowing high reprogrammability and providing several possibilities of interactions. The platform is the result of a multidisciplinary design process, which has ...
