In today's shift from steel and concrete construction toward bio-based materials such as timber, reliance on forests for construction materials is growing. However, concerns are rising regarding the type and amount of wood our forests will produce in the f ...

This paper presents an experimental study that examined the role of the slab continuity and framing action on the overall hysteretic behavior of a composite-steel moment resisting frame (MRF) up until incipient collapse using advanced instrumentation. The ...

Brittle solids typically fail by growth and propagation of a crack from a surface flaw. This process is modelled using linear elastic fracture mechanics, which parameterizes the toughness of a material by the critical stress intensity factor, or the prefac ...

Drainage and spreading processes in thin liquid films have received considerable attention in the past decades. Yet, our understanding of three-dimensional cases remains sparse, with only a few studies focusing on flat and axisymmetric substrates. Here, we ...

Leidenfrost drops were recently found to host strong dynamics. In the present study, we investigate both experimentally and theoretically the flow structures and stability inside a Leidenfrost water drop as it evaporates, starting with a large puddle. As r ...

We study here experimentally, numerically and using a lubrication approach, the shape, velocity and lubrication film thickness distribution of a droplet rising in a vertical Hele-Shaw cell. The droplet is surrounded by a stationary immiscible fluid and mov ...
