Aerosol particles play a fundamental role in the Earth system because of their impact on climate and human health. The climate impact stems from their effect on Earth's energy balance through the scattering and absorption of incoming solar radiation and th ...

Ice nucleating particles (INPs) initiate ice formation, affecting the liquid versus ice distribution and radiative properties of clouds. INPs have been measured around the Arctic, but few INP concentration measurements have been reported for air during mov ...

Climate change imposes new constraints on tree survival, emphasising two key parameters: the vapour pressure deficit (VPD) and air temperature. Yet, no study has experimentally evaluated drought-induced tree mortality risk following acclimation to elevated ...

Wind energy is the most mature renewable energy technology; however, its exploitation in cities is often met with skepticism. Thanks to their ability to operate at low wind speed regardless of direction, vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) offer an attract ...

In northern peatlands, reduction of Sphagnum dominance in favour of vascular vegetation is likely to influence biogeochemical processes. Such vegetation changes occur as the water table lowers and temperatures rise. To test which of these factors has a sig ...

Having shed new light on an old mystery-how nine Russian mountaineers perished in the Urals in 1959-Alexander Puzrin and Johan Gaume got hooked. Three expeditions later it is clear that avalanches are not exceptional at Dyatlov Pass. ...

The practical deployment of metallic anodes in the energy-dense batteries is impeded by the thermodynamically unstable interphase in contact with the aprotic electrolyte, structural collapse of the substrates as well as their insufficient affinity toward t ...

The scaling of different features of streamwise normal stress profiles uu (+) (y(+)) in turbulent wall-bounded flows is the subject of a long-running debate. Particular points of contention are the scaling of the 'inner' and 'outer' peaks of < uu >(+) at y ...

In this work the technology and characterization of nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films directly grown on InAlN/GaN HEMTs is presented. Optimization of GaN based HEMT process steps including metallization stacks is discussed. A fully processed InAlN/GaN HE ...
