Neuroprostheses have been used clinically for decades, to help restore or preserve brain functions, when pharmaceutical treatments are inefficient. Although great progress in the field has been made over the years to interface with the nervous system, surf ...

Evidence from behavioral studies suggests that the spatial origin of sounds may influence the perception of emotional valence. Using 7T fMRI we have investigated the impact of the categories of sound (vocalizations; non-vocalizations), emotional valence (p ...

Background: The pathophysiology behind tinnitus is still not well understood. Different imaging methods help in the understanding of the complex relationships that lead to the perception of tinnitus. Objective: Herein, different functional imaging methods t ...

Recent years have seen considerable progress in understanding brain function, and in modulating it through real-time fMRI neurofeedback (NF). Inspired by these advances, paired with the unique possibility of inducing the clinically relevant Presence Halluc ...

Aversively-motivated associative learning allows animals to avoid harm and thus ensures survival. Aversive learning can be studied by the fear learning paradigm, in which an innocuous sensory stimulus like a tone (conditioned stimulus, CS), acquires a nega ...

Learning to play an instrument at an advanced age may help to counteract or slow down age-related cognitive decline. However, studies investigating the neural underpinnings of these effects are still scarce. One way to investigate the effects of brain plas ...

Digital brain atlases define a hierarchy of brain regions and their locations in three-dimensional space. They provide a standard coordinate system in which diverse datasets can be integrated for visualization and analysis. They also enable building of dat ...

Fetal brain diffusion magnetic resonance images (MRI) are often acquired with a lower through-plane than in-plane resolution. This anisotropy is often overcome by classical upsampling methods such as linear or cubic interpolation. In this work, we employ a ...

Diffusion MRI (dMRI) of the developing brain can provide valuable insights into the white matter development. However, slice thickness in fetal dMRI is typically high (i.e., 3-5 mm) to freeze the in-plane motion, which reduces the sensitivity of the dMRI s ...

In the last twenty years, advances in real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging (rt-fMRI) have offered exciting new tools to study the human brain. One of them, termed rt-fMRI neurofeedback (NF), has turned the MRI scanner environment into an interac ...

Purpose: T1 Magnetization Prepared Two Rapid Acquisition Gradient Echo (MP2RAGE) with compress sensing (CS) has been proposed as an improvement of the standard MPRAGE sequence with multiple advantages including reduced acquisition time needed to provide a ...

There are many approaches to weakly-supervised training of networks to segment 2D images. By contrast, existing approaches to segmenting volumetric images rely on full-supervision of a subset of 2D slices of the 3D volume. We propose an approach to volume ...

Previous studies have shown that the gene encoding the adhesion G protein-coupled receptor L3 (ADGRL3; formerly latrophilin 3, LPHN3) is associated with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Conversely, no studies have investigated the anatomica ...

Many copy number variants (CNVs) confer risk for the same range of neurodevelopmental symptoms and psychiatric conditions including autism and schizophrenia. Yet, to date neuroimaging studies have typically been carried out one mutation at a time, showing ...

Both electroencephalography (EEG) and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) are non-invasive methods that show complementary aspects of human brain activity. Despite measuring different proxies of brain activity, both the measured blood-oxygenation ...

Background: Mapping diffusion MRI tractography streamlines to the cortical surface facilitates the integration of white matter features onto gray matter, especially for connectivity analysis. ...

Preterm birth is a major pediatric health problem that perturbs the genetically determined program of corticogenesis of the developing brain. As a consequence, prematurity has been strongly associated with adverse long-term neurodevelopmental outcome that ...

Background Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is one of the most widespread neurological network disorders. Computational anatomy MRI studies demonstrate a robust pattern of cortical volume loss. Most statistical analyses provide information about localiz ...

The synchronized firing of distant neuronal populations gives rise to a wide array of functional brain networks that underlie human brain function. Given the enormous perception, learning, and cognition potential of the human brain, it is not surprising th ...

Objective:The cochlear nucleus (CN) is the target of the auditory brainstem implant (ABI). Most ABI candidates have Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) and distorted brainstem anatomy from bilateral vestibular schwannomas. The CN is difficult to characterize as ...
