This study experimentally validates robust designs for herringbone grooved journal bearings (HGJBs) in micro-turbocompressors, addressing manufacturing deviations that lead to rotor instabilities. Experiments on a Pelton-driven rotor system focused on maxi ...

Distributionally robust optimization (DRO) studies decision problems under uncertainty where the probability distribution governing the uncertain problem parameters is itself uncertain. A key component of any DRO model is its ambiguity set, that is, a fami ...

We consider a conservation law with strictly positive wave velocity and study the well-posedness of a suitable notion of solution for the associated initial value problem under a flux constraint active in the half-line R+. The strict positivity of the wave ...

Studying the self-assembly of chiral molecules in two dimensions offers insights into the fundamentals of crystallization. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we examine an uncommon aggregation of polyaromatic chiral molecules on a silver surface. Dense p ...

Data and code associated with the following paper V. Vento, et al., Phys. Rev. Res. (2025) A thorough explanation of the experiment performed is available there. The name of each sub-folder and file in S-AS_chi3_code.zip indicates the corresponding figure ...

Ensuring reliable operation in power grids given the complexity of modern electricity networks with increasing demands, varying generation and flows present significant computational challenges. Addressing these challenges, we develop efficient methods for ...

A comparison-based search algorithm lets a user find a target item t in a database by answering queries of the form, "Which of items i and j is closer to t?" Instead of formulating an explicit query (such as one or several keywords), the user navigates tow ...

Communication-constrained algorithms for decentralized learning and optimization rely on the exchange of quantized signals coupled with local updates. In this context, differential quantization is an effective technique to mitigate the negative impact of q ...
