The subject of the present work is discovery and in-depth characterization of a new class of functional materials. Tuning of the bond polarity and orbital occupation with a goal of establishing balance between localization and delocalization of electrons - ...

The magnetic properties and the atomic scale morphology of bimetallic two-dimensional nanoislands, epitaxially grown on fcc(111) metal surfaces, have been studied by means of Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy. We investigate the ...

EuMnSb2 is a candidate topological material which can be tuned towards a Weyl semimetal, but there are differing reports for its antiferromagnetic (AFM) phases. The coupling of bands dominated by pure Sb layers hosting topological fermions to Mn and Eu mag ...

Magnetic colloids adsorbed at a fluid interface are unique model systems to understand self-assembly in confined environments, both in equilibrium and out of equilibrium, with important potential applications. In this work the pearl-chain-like self-assembl ...

This thesis presents results of studies of novel compounds modeling complex fundamental physics phenomena. Cu2OSO4 is a copper based magnetic Mott Insulator system, where spin half magnetic moments form a new type of lattice. These intrinsically quantum pi ...

Lipid membranes are complex and dynamic systems which are known to mediate signaling processes between cells and their environment. To do this multiple ion channels and pumps are involved in controlling the in- and out-flux of various ions (K+, Na+, Mg2+, ...

Employing X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and momentum-resolved density fluctuation (MRDF) theory, the magnetic and electronic properties of ultrathin NdNiO3 (NNO) film in proximity to ferromagne ...

All organisms are made to a large extent of soft matter - macromolecules such as proteins and polysaccharides, or assemblies of small molecules such as lipids embedded in an aqueous environment. Understanding the role of order in soft matter presents a cha ...

The acylpyrazolone proligands HQR (HQR in general, in detail: HQCy = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-carbonylcyclohexyl-5-pyrazolone, 4-C(O)-phenyl, HQPh = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone, HQC17 = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-stearoyl-5-pyrazolone, HQC17,Ph = 1-phenyl ...

Implantable drug delivery systems that can realize a scheduled drug release according to the needs of patients would be highly beneficial for the treatment of chronic diseases and cancer. Here, micrometer‐sized hydrogel particles with both thermal and pH s ...

An experimental study of long-range magnetic order formation mechanisms in a layered structure with a honeycomb arrangement of the magnetic atoms Na2Ni2TeO6 is conducted. For the first time, the strong spin correlations are directly observed above the Neel ...

Hybrid semiconductor-ferromagnetic insulator heterostructures are interesting due to their tunable electronic transport, self-sustained stray field, and local proximitized magnetic exchange. In this work, we present lattice-matched hybrid epitaxy of semico ...

We studied the effect of the exposure of human A549 and SH-SY5Y cell lines to aqueous solutions of organic/inorganic halide perovskites CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) and CH3NH3SnI3 (MASnI3) at the molecular level by using Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy ...

The marked interplay between the crystalline, electronic, and magnetic structure of atomically thin magnets has been regarded as the key feature for designing next-generation magneto-optoelectronic devices. In this respect, a detailed understanding of the ...

Lipid membranes are self-assembled structures whose composition determines the properties of membranes of cells and organelles. The molecular level understanding of lipid membranes is based on spectroscopy and MD simulations of lipid monolayer systems. As ...

Particles that preferentially partition to a specific cellular subunit, such as the nucleus, mitochondria, or the cytoskeleton, are of relevance to a number of applications, including drug delivery, genetic manipulation, or self-assembly. Here, hierarchica ...
