Hearing Loss (HL) is the most prevalent sensorineural disorder, affecting 360 million people worldwide. As genetic causes lead to 50% of pre-lingual deafness, gene therapy is considered as a potential therapeutic strategy. Mutations in the TMC1 gene are li ...

Little is known about the perception of artificial spatial hearing by hearing-impaired subjects. The purpose of this study was to investigate how listeners with hearing disorders perceived the effect of a spatialization feature designed for wireless microp ...

Enhancing speech intelligibility for hearing-impaired subjects in complex acoustic conditions is still a challenging topic of research. To mitigate the detrimental effects of background noise and reverberation, current hearing instruments incorporate vario ...

Remote microphone systems significantly improve speech intelligibly performance offered by hearing aids. The voice of the speaker(s) is captured close to the mouth by a microphone, then wirelessly sent to the hearing aids. However, the sound is rendered in ...

Beamforming is commonly used in devices such as in hearing instruments (HI) with a view to reducing noise. It consists in focusing on audio signals arising from a prescribed steering direction while suppressing those coming from other directions. The effic ...

This paper deals with the resolution of inverse problems in a periodic setting or, in other terms, the reconstruction of periodic continuous-domain signals from their noisy measurements. We focus on two reconstruction paradigms: variational and statistical ...

Animal models of hearing loss and tinnitus observe pathological neural activity in the tonotopic frequency maps of the primary auditory cortex. Here, we applied ultra high-field fMRI at 7 T to test whether human patients with unilateral hearing loss and ti ...

Modern neuroimaging technologies provide us with non-invasive methods for study- ing structure and function, and plasticity of the human auditory cortex. Here we have acquired high spatial resolution functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data of the ...

Human listeners place greater weight on the beginning of a sound compared to the middle or end when determining sound location, creating an auditory illusion known as the Franssen effect. Here, we exploited that effect to test whether human auditory cortex ...

For micro aerial vehicles (MAVs) involved in search and rescue missions, the ability to locate the source of a distress sound signal is significantly important and allows fast localization of victims and rescuers during nighttime, through foliage and in du ...

This paper focusses on the impact of environment mass loading on GPS time-series of position changes and noise characteristic. We make use of position time series of 206 GPS station ranging from 2001 to 2013 globally distributed. Firstly, we investigate th ...
