The poloidal field (PF) magnet system of the Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) facility consists of 6 superconducting coils with full top-down symmetry, realized in Nb3Sn (PF1 and PF6) and NbTi (PF2, PF3, PF4 and PF5). To validate the NbTi PF coil design, short ...

We report the results of an exploratory design study for Nitronic 50 (N50) Toroidal Field (TF) coils for the EU-DEMO fusion power plant. N50 is a super-austenitic steel that has a yield stress (𝝈 𝒚) of up to 1500 MPa at 4 K, 50% higher than the conventiona ...

The most efficient and promising operational regime for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor tokamak is the high-confinement mode. In this regime, however, periodic relaxations of the plasma edge can occur. These edge-localized modes pose a ...

In ITER, to mitigate the deleterious effects of plasma disruptions, massive quantities of radiating impurities will be injected into the disrupting plasma by shattered pellet injectors (SPI) to pre-emptively radiate away the stored thermal and magnetic ene ...

We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, which we observe as filamentation. We determine a threshold value for the ratio between the bunch transverse size and plasma ...

Truly wearable, fully flexible, and multiparametric sweat analysis with soft and socially discrete packaging offers tremendous potential to enable the next generation of noninvasive digital biomarkers analysis. Several examples of miniaturized potentiometr ...

This paper investigates the influence of typical gravity connections on the seismic demands of steel concentrically braced frame (CBF) buildings with friction dampers as dissipative floor connectors. The investigated connections include (i) typical shear t ...

This work proposes a differential evolution algorithm to control a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system based on photovoltaic generation and energy cost curves, and constraints associated with the power converters' operation, battery charging strategy, and initial ...

Modern occupants hardly use their capacity to adapt to the wide range of thermal environments due to living in well-insulated buildings with indoor climatization. However, climate change with associated health hazards necessitates exploring the limits of h ...

Heavy metal contamination has become one of the greatest global environmental problems. In this study, a magnetic calcium-alginate hydrogel-sphere encapsulated with Fe-Mn-Zr ternary-metal composite (MCHETC) was prepared through a combined co-precipitation ...

The power-to-methane process using a solid-oxide electrolyser, followed by an exothermic methanation reactor, is effective for the production of an energy carrier (synthesis methane) that can be readily stored and transported at a large scale. A significan ...

Lignocellulose is one of the most promising renewable bioresources for the production of chemicals. For sustainable and competitive biorefineries, effective valorization of all biomass fractions is crucial. However, current efforts in lignocellulose fracti ...

Global simulations of electromagnetic turbulence in circular-flux-surface tokamak and ASDEX-Upgrade geometry, tearing instabilities and their combination with the electromagnetic turbulence, nonlinear Alfvenic modes in the presence of fast particles and th ...

The JET 2019-2020 scientific and technological programme exploited the results of years of concerted scientific and engineering work, including the ITER-like wall (ILW: Be wall and W divertor) installed in 2010, improved diagnostic capabilities now fully a ...

A large superconducting machine, JT-60SA has been constructed to provide major contributions to the ITER program and DEMO design. For the success of the ITER project and fusion reactor, understanding and development of plasma controllability in ITER and DE ...

A significant effort has recently been initiated at ETHZ for the development of high frequency, high power, frequency-agile gyrotrons for DNP-NMR spectroscopy. In this context an in house cavity interaction code is under development. In this paper, some de ...

In this paper, we precisely quantify the wavelet compressibility of compound Poisson processes. To that end, we expand the given random process over the Haar wavelet basis and we analyse its asymptotic approximation properties. By only considering the nonz ...

A methodology based on compressive sampling is developed for incomplete wind time-histories reconstruction and extrapolation in a single spatial dimension, as well as for related stochastic field statistics estimation. This relies on l1-norm minimization i ...

Using recently installed scrape-off layer diagnostics on the tokamak a configuration variable, we characterise the poloidal and parallel properties of turbulent filaments. We access both attached and detached divertor conditions across a wide range of core ...
