Cavitation is a topic that has long been of interest due to the large and growing range of applications associated with it. This is mainly because the collapse of cavitation bubbles releases a considerable amount of energy into the surrounding environment. ...

Cavitation bubbles, extensively investigated in fluid mechanics, present enduring challenges in hydraulic machinery, while holding considerable potential for practical applications in biomedicine and sonochemistry. Despite more than a century of research, ...

We study the dynamics of a cavitation bubble near beds of sand of different grain sizes. We use high-speed imaging to observe the motion of the bubble and the sand for different values of the stand-off parameter gamma (dimensionless bubble-boundary distanc ...

The relaxation of photoexcited nanosystems is a fundamental process of light–matter interaction. Depending on the couplings of the internal degrees of freedom, relaxation can be ultrafast, converting electronic energy in a few fs, or slow, if the energy is ...

A popular method to induce synthetic propulsion at the microscale is to use the forces created by surface-produced gas bubbles inside the asymmetric body of a catalytic swimmer (referred to in the literature as microrocket). Gas bubbles nucleate and grow w ...

Presented here are experiments clarifying how the deformation of cavitation bubbles affects their rebound. Rebound bubbles carry the remaining energy of a bubble following its initial collapse, which dissipates energy mainly through shock waves, jets, and ...

Cavitation bubbles are a topic of long-standing interest owing to the powerful phenomena associated with their collapse. Their unique ability to focus energy typically causes damage in hydraulic machinery (turbines, pumps, propellers, ...) but, if managed ...

We present detailed observations of the shock waves emitted at the collapse of single cavitation bubbles using simultaneous time-resolved shadowgraphy and hydrophone pressure measurements. The geometry of the bubbles is systematically varied from spherical ...

To reduce the computational cost of the uncertainty propagation analysis, which is used to study the impact of input parameter variations on the results of a simulation, a general and simple to apply methodology based on decomposing the solution to the mod ...

Fast liquid jets, called micro-jets, are produced within cavitation bubbles experiencing an aspherical collapse. Here we review micro-jets of different origins, scales and appearances, and propose a unified framework to describe their dynamics by using an ...

The present paper focuses on the numerical simulation of the interaction of laser-generated bubbles with a free surface, including comparison of the results with instances from high-speed videos of the experiment. The Volume Of Fluid method was employed fo ...

Beer tapping is a well known prank where a bottle of beer is impacted from the top by a solid object, usually another bottle, leading to a sudden foam overflow. A description of the shock-driven bubble dynamics leading to foaming is presented based on an e ...

Hydraulic machines subject to off-design operation involve the presence of cavitating flow regimes in the draft tube. The cavitation vortex rope at part load conditions is described as an excitation source for the hydraulic system, and interactions between ...

This paper presents an equivalent electrical circuit for one dimensional substrate minority carriers spice simulation. The electrical circuit parameters are extracted from substrate meshing applying the finite difference method. This model is derived from ...

When water flows through hydraulic turbomachines, the local pressure can become low enough to vaporize the water and create vapor cavities. This phenomenon is called cavitation. When the cavities collapse, shock waves and liquid jets traveling through the ...

Three-dimensional (3-D) integration is an emerging candidate for implementing high performance multifunctional systems-on-chip. Employing an efficient medium for data communication among different planes is a key factor in achieving a high performance 3-D ...

Simulation of biodegradation of chlorinated solvents in dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) source zones requires a model that accounts for the complexity of processes involved and that is consistent with available laboratory studies. This paper describ ...

We report a fundamental study of single cavitation bubbles inside quasi-spherical water drops produced in microgravity (42nd ESA parabolic flight campaign, 8th ESA student parabolic flight campaign). High-speed imaging revealed implications of isolated, fi ...

The dynamic of a cavitation bubble inside a water drop is investigated in microgravity in order to analyze the interaction between the collapsing bubble and a quasispherical free surface. Tests are carried in the frame of the 42nd parabolic flight campaign ...

This paper presents a refined approach to obtain the parameters of synchronous machine equivalent circuits from standstill DC decay tests. A dedicated program for the time- constants and reactances identification was developed and applied for both d- and q ...
