Background: New experimental methods must be developed to study interaction networks in systems biology. To reduce biological noise, individual subjects, such as single cells, should be analyzed using high throughput approaches. The measurement of several ...

Skin colors are important for a broad range of imaging applications to assure quality and naturalness. We discuss the impact of various metadata on skin colors in images, i.e. how does the presence of a metadata attribute influence the expected skin color ...

The rapidly increasing amount of user-generated content in social tagging systems provides a huge source of information. Yet, performing effective search in these systems is very challenging, especially when we seek the most appropriate items that match a ...

Tagging in online social networks is very popular these days, as it facilitates search and retrieval of diverse resources available online. However, noisy and spam annotations often make it difficult to perform an efficient search. Users may make mistakes ...

Web 2.0 streams, like blog postings, microblogging tweets, or RSS feeds from online communities, offer a wealth of latest news about real-world events and societal discussion. From a user’s perspective, it becomes harder and harder to get a decent overview ...

As sensors continue to proliferate, the capabilities of effectively querying not only sensor data but also its metadata becomes important in a wide range of applications. This paper demonstrates a search system that utilizes various techniques and tools fo ...

The Online Chemical Modeling Environment is a web-based platform that aims to automate and simplify the typical steps required for QSAR modeling. The platform consists of two major subsystems: the database of experimental measurements and the modeling fram ...

The trends in web development of educational applications and of Web 2.0 or social applications are converging. Platforms are designed to host a variety of software components (called widgets or plugins), which can be organised or combined (mashed-up) at u ...

The amount of multimedia content is on a constant increase, and people interact with each other and with content on a daily basis through social media systems. The goal of this thesis was to model and understand emerging online communities that revolve aro ...

The large-scale adoption of the Web 2.0 paradigm has revolutionized the way we interact with the Web today. End-users, so far mainly passive consumers of information are now becoming active information producers, creating, uploading, and commenting on all ...
