We provide new explicit examples of lattice sphere packings in dimensions 54, 55, 162, 163, 486 and 487 that are the densest known so far, using Kummer families of elliptic curves over global function fields. In some cases, these families of elliptic curve ...

We study the statistical mechanics and the equilibrium dynamics of a system of classical Heisenberg spins with frustrated interactions on a d -dimensional simple hypercubic lattice, in the limit of infinite dimensionality d -> infinity . In the analysis we ...

IceCube Collaboration has previously reported evidence for a neutrino signal from a Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068. This may suggest that all Seyfert galaxies emit neutrinos. To test this hypothesis, we identify the best candidate neutrino sources among nearby Se ...

We provide faster algorithms and fine-grained reductions for lattice problems in general norms. ...

The corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG) algorithm has been extensively used to investigate both classical and quantum two-dimensional (2D) lattice models. The convergence of the algorithm can strongly vary from model to model depending on ...

Professionals in the building design and operation fields typically look at standards and guidelines as a reliable source of information and guidance with regard to procedural, contractual, and legal scope and requirements that are relevant to accountabili ...

We study the elliptic curves given by y(2) = x(3) + bx + t(3n+1) over global function fields of characteristic 3 ; in particular we perform an explicit computation of the L-function by relating it to the zeta function of a certain superelliptic curve u(3) ...

We give a construction of an efficient one-out-of-many proof system, in which a prover shows that he knows the pre-image for one element in a set, based on the hardness of lattice problems. The construction employs the recent zero-knowledge framework of Ly ...

It is generally assumed that the parent-twin interface is a fully invariant plane. The calculations of the rational interfaces of the type I twins and irrational interfaces of the type II twins are based on this hypothesis. Recently, some asymmetric facets ...

We give a direct construction of a specific central idempotent in the endomorphism algebra of a finite lattice T. This idempotent is associated with all possible sublattices of T which are totally ordered. A generalization is considered in a conjectural fa ...

Motivated by the goal of designing interventions for softening polarized opinions on the Web, and building on results from psychology, we hypothesized that people would be moved more easily towards opposing opinions when the latter were voiced by a celebri ...

Whereas electron-phonon scattering relaxes the electron's momentum in metals, a perpetual exchange of momentum between phonons and electrons may conserve total momentum and lead to a coupled electron-phonon liquid. Such a phase of matter could be a platfor ...

This thesis is devoted to the investigation of static and dynamic properties of two different sets of quantum magnets with neutron scattering techniques and the help of linear spin wave theory. Both systems are copper-based with spin-1/2, which makes them ...

Exposure to daylight has much to offer and should be optimised to maximise its potential. In order to harvest its benefits, any visual discomfort from daylight should be anticipated and minimised. Hence, there is the need to predict discomfort from dayligh ...

The use of cellular ceramics in enhancing the performance of a high-temperature latent heat thermal energy storage unit was investigated. A detailed design methodology is presented, which consists of a combined analytical-numerical analysis followed by a m ...

An integer program (IP) is a problem of the form

\min \{f(x) : \, Ax = b, \ l \leq x \leq u, \ x \in \Z^n\}

, where

A \in \Z^{m \times n}

b \in \Z^m

l,u \in \Z^n

, and

f: \Z^n \rightarrow \Z

is a separable convex objective function. The problem o ...

We report magnetic properties of a 3d(9) (Cu2+) magnetic insulator Cu2OSO4 measured on both powder and single crystal. The magnetic atoms of this compound form layers whose geometry can be described either as a system of chains coupled through dimers or as ...

We determine the dimension of every simple module for the algebra of the monoid of all relations on a finite set (i.e. Boolean matrices). This is in fact the same question as the determination of the dimension of every evaluation of a simple correspondence ...

We study the Neel to fourfold columnar valence bond solid (cVBS) quantum phase transition in a sign-free S = 1 square-lattice model. This is the same kind of transition that for S = 1/2 has been argued to realize the prototypical deconfined critical point. ...

Using density-functional theory (DFT) band-structure calculations, we study the crystal structure, lattice dynamics, and magnetic interactions in the Shastry-Sutherland magnet SrCu2(BO3)(2) under pressure, concentrating on experimentally relevant pressures ...
