Cavitation bubbles, extensively investigated in fluid mechanics, present enduring challenges in hydraulic machinery, while holding considerable potential for practical applications in biomedicine and sonochemistry. Despite more than a century of research, ...

In recent years, considerable interest has been devoted to the interactions between cavitation bubbles and tissue-mimicking materials due to their promising applications in medicine and biomedical sciences. The strong fluid-structure interaction between a ...

DNA fragmentation is an essential process in developing genetic sequencing strategies, genetic research, as well as for the diagnosis of diseases with a genetic signature like cancer. Efficient on-chip DNA fragmentation protocols would be beneficial to pro ...

Hydrodynamic cavitation is one of the major phase change phenomena and occurs with a sudden decrease in the local static pressure within a fluid. With the emergence of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), high-speed microfluidic devices have attracted co ...

Hydrodynamic cavitation is considered an effective tool to be used in different applications, such as surface cleaning, ones in the food industry, energy harvesting, water treatment, biomedical applications, and heat transfer enhancement. Thus, both charac ...

The erosion of hydraulic machines by solid particle impacts is a widespread problem that leads to outage for expensive repairs, efficiency reduction, and cavitation enhancement. Numerical simulations can be used to study the phenomenon, provided they featu ...

Cavitation and the energy associated with the collapse of resulting cavitation bubbles constitute an important research subject. The collapse of the hydrodynamic cavitation bubbles at the outlet of the flow elements leads to a high energy release and gener ...

Cavitating tip-leakage vortices appear in several hydrodynamic flows such as marine propellers or Kaplan turbines. Cavitating computations are a challenging topic since several keys issues are an ongoing work such as the definition of a universal mass sour ...

Cavitation bubbles are a topic of long-standing interest owing to the powerful phenomena associated with their collapse. Their unique ability to focus energy typically causes damage in hydraulic machinery (turbines, pumps, propellers, ...) but, if managed ...

Due to the increasing production of volatile new renewable energies as solar and wind, storage hydropower plants have to operate under harsh operation conditions in order to stabilize the electricity grid. As a result, highly transient water pressures occu ...

The massive penetration of the existing electrical grid by renewable energy sources requires a continuous extension of the operating range of hydroelectric powerplants, which can lead to cavitation flow instabilities inducing undesirable mechanical vibrati ...

The principle of the superposition of ultrasonic frequency vibrations to conventional machining techniques is known and practiced since the 1950s under the name of ultrasonic machining. Using ultrasonics, many good properties appear including reduced thrus ...

This study aims to evaluate the performance of a novel pilot-scale coupled system consisting of a high frequency ultrasonic reactor (400 kHz) and a compound parabolic collector (CPC). The benefits of the concurrent application of ultrasound and the photo-F ...

This article focuses on the use of spherical nanoindentation measurements to estimate the pressure of cavitation impacts and its statistical distribution. Indeed, nanoindentation techniques are supposed to represent an effective tool in this field due to t ...

Cavitation erosion during the incubation period was investigated via pitting tests conducted on three different materials: an Aluminum alloy, a Nickel Aluminum Bronze alloy and a Duplex Stainless Steel. Pitting tests were conducted in a cavitation tunnel i ...

The aim of this article is to present a method to calculate the morphological properties of the built environment using LiDAR (light-detection and ranging) data, geographic information systems (GIS) data and three-dimensional (3D) models of cities as a sou ...

This paper describes the techniques and physical parameters used to produce stable centimetric water drops in microgravity, and to study single cavitation bubbles inside such drops (Parabolic Flight Campaigns, European Space Agency ESA). While the main sci ...

An experimental work has been carried out to investigate the dynamic behavior and the intensity of erosive partial cavitation on a 2-D hydrofoil. Both sheet (stable) and cloud (unstable) cavitation have been tested in a cavitation tunnel for various free s ...
