Supported Co-based catalysts exhibit promising catalytic activities in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) during alkaline water electrolysis. Surface functionalization of the support modulates the dispersion of the catalysts and their interaction with the ...

Exa-scale simulations are on the horizon but almost no new design for the output has been proposed in recent years. In simulations using individual time steps, the traditional snapshots are over resolving particles/cells with large time steps and are under ...

Smart monitoring has been studied and developed in recent years to create faster, cheaper, and more user-friendly on-site methods. The present study describes an innovative technology for investigative monitoring of heavy metal pollution (Cu and Pb) in sur ...

In this work, the conventional scenario of the black liquor (BL) concentration and combustion is compared with the BL upgrading gasification process for ammonia production. The chemical processes synthesis, modeling and simulation are performed by using As ...

In this study, leaf and soil samples were used as bio-monitors for different alkali and heavy metals at six different locations in Kyiv city. Using x–y plots of the inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) data measured the discre ...

Large amounts of toxic metals are discharged into rivers and lakes, but little is known about the factors that drive the adsorption and transformation of these metals in the hyporheic zone and the exchange flux across the sediment-water interface. To bette ...

Despite the huge expansion in recent years of sweat sensing and wearable technologies, several challenges are still open, including poor sample collection, separate sampling and analysis, low multi-sensing capabilities and materials toxicity. In this work, ...

With the growth of personalized medicine and e-Health, there has been an increasing interest in the development of accurate sensing systems able to support this healthcare revolution for both in- and off-hospital monitoring. Remote biosensing devices can d ...

Many biological methods are based on single-cell isolation. In single-cell line development, the gold standard involves the dilution of cells by means of a pipet. This process is time-consuming as it is repeated over several weeks to ensure clonality. Here ...

Optical sensors based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) demonstrate tradeoffs that limit their use in in vivo and in vitro environments. Sensor characteristics are primarily governed by the non-covalent wrapping used to suspend the hydrophobic SWC ...

In a time of rising concern about climate change and pollution, the water quality of large lakes acts as an indicator of the health of the environment. To study the water quality at a large scale - up to several hundreds of kilometres - hyperspectral remot ...

Synthetically engineered cells are powerful and potentially useful biosensors, but it remains problematic to deploy such systems due to practical difficulties and biosafety concerns. To overcome these hurdles, we developed a microfluidic device that serves ...

The significant increase of contaminants entering fresh water bodies calls for the development of rapid and reliable methods to monitor the aquatic environment and to detect water toxicity. Cell culture-based biosensing techniques utilise the overall cytot ...

We present a novel hybrid glass-polymer micromechanical sensor by combining two femtosecond laser direct writing processes: laser illumination followed by chemical etching of glass and two-photon polymerization. This incorporation of techniques demonstrate ...

Measuring the concentration of different compounds in aquatic ecosystem and understanding their impact on the environment are some of the main objectives in the environmental monitoring field. Trace metals, nutrients, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), bio ...

Many diseases including sick building syndrome, respiratory problems and cancers can be caused by exposure to high concentrations of toxins commonly used in modern building materials, paints, glues and furniture. To minimize exposure to these toxins, it is ...

New advancements in the management of type I diabetic patients (T1DM) call for a new generation of monitoring systems based upon an array of metabolic biosensors including sensors for insulin detection. Blood insulin values are always less than 270 pM; the ...

At present, most of the tests involved in personalized medicine are complex and must be conducted in specialized centers. The development of appropriate, fast and inexpensive diagnostic technologies can encourage medical personnel in performing preventive ...

The purpose of this paper is to compare three approaches for providing information on the bioaccumulation potential of metals from contaminated sediments to the deposit-feeding polychaete Arenicola marina. We present metal (Ag, As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn) bioac ...

Sunflower mutant lines with an enhanced tolerance and metal accumulation capacity obtained by mutation breeding have been proposed for Zn, Cd and Cu removal from metal-contaminated soils in previous studies. However, soils contaminated with trace elements ...
