Molecular quantum dynamics simulations are essential for understanding many fundamental phenomena in physics and chemistry. They often require solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for molecular nuclei, which is challenging even for medium-sized ...

We present an efficient method to compute diffusion coefficients of multiparticle systems with strong interactions directly from the geometry and topology of the potential energy field of the migrating particles. The approach is tested on Li-ion diffusion ...

We investigate the momentum-resolved spin and charge susceptibilities, as well as the chemical potential and double occupancy in the two-dimensional Hubbard model as functions of doping, temperature, and interaction strength. Through these quantities, we i ...

In software engineering, the developers' joy of decomposing and recomposing microservice-based applications has led to an enormous wave of microservice artefact technologies. To understand them better, researchers perform hundreds of experiments and empiri ...

Thermally driven flows in fractures play a key role in enhancing the heat transfer and fluid mixing across the Earth’s lithosphere. Yet the energy pathways in such confined environments have not been characterised. Building on Letelier et al. (J. Fluid Mec ...

The resolving power of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) crystallography depends heavily on the accuracy of computational predictions of NMR chemical shieldings of candidate structures, which are usually taken to be local minima in the potential ...

We briefly summarize the kernel regression approach, as used recently in materials modelling, to fitting functions, particularly potential energy surfaces, and highlight how the linear algebra framework can be used to both predict and train from linear fun ...

DC power distribution systems in marine applications are in the process of being established as the preferred solution for shipboard power distribution systems. This paper presents a bus-tie switch topology for the protection of such systems. The device is ...

The present invention relates to a semiconductor sensor (1) comprising: a source element (17, 19); a drain element (21, 23); a semiconductor channel element (25) between the source element (17, 19) and the drain element (21, 23) for forming an electrically ...

We present a weak form implementation of the nonlinear axisymmetric shell equations. This implementation is suitable to study the nonlinear deformations of axisymmetric shells, with the capability of considering a general mid-surface shape, non-homogeneous ...

We derive the mechanical energy budget for shallow, ice-covered lakes energized by penetrative solar radiation. Radiation increases the available and background components of the potential energy at different rates. Available potential energy drives under- ...

For large-scale screening studies there is a need to estimate the diffusion of gas molecules in nanoporous materials more efficiently than (brute force) molecular dynamics. In particular for systems with low diffusion coefficients molecular dynamics can be ...

Geometrically complex timber plate structures using wood-wood connections are increasingly designed thanks to digital fabrication. Whereas their fabrication has been automated using computer-aided design programming, research focused on the development of ...

Ice-covered waterbodies are far from being quiescent systems. In this paper, we investigate ice-covered freshwater basins heated by solar radiation that penetrates across waters with temperatures below or near the temperature of maximum density. In this sc ...

Metal cations often play an important role in shaping the three-dimensional structure of peptides. As an example, the model system AcPheAla5LysH+ is investigated in order to fully understand the forces that stabilize its helical structure. In particular, t ...

At part load operation, Francis turbines experience the development of a cavitation vortex rope in the draft tube, whose precession acts as a pressure excitation source. In case of resonance, the resulting pressure pulsations lead to unacceptable torque an ...

Efficient consumption of energy and material resources, including water, is the primary focus for process industries to reduce their environmental impact. The Conference of Parties in Paris (COP21) highlighted the prominent role of industrial energy effici ...

Many municipalities and public authorities have supported the creation of solar cadastres to map the solar energy-generation potential of existing buildings. Despite advancements in modelling solar potential, most of these tools provide simple evaluations ...

In this paper we consider, from the numerical point of view, a thermoelastic diffusion porous problem. This is written as a coupled system of two hyperbolic equations, for the displacement and porosity fields, and two parabolic equations, for the temperatu ...

In this paper, we demonstrate that it is possible to approach the gas-liquid critical point of the Lennard-Jones fluid by performing simulations in a slab geometry using a cut-off potential. In the slab simulation geometry, it is essential to apply an accu ...
