Online services have become ubiquitous in technological society, the global demand for which has driven enterprises to construct gigantic datacenters that run their software. Such facilities have also recently become a substrate for third-party organizatio ...

The booming popularity of online services has led to a major evolution in the way these services are built and deployed. To cope with such online data-intensive services, service providers deploy several massive-scale datacenters, also referred to as wareh ...

Computational protein design has emerged as a powerful tool capable of identifying sequences compatible with pre-defined protein structures. The sequence design protocols, implemented in the Rosetta suite, have become widely used in the protein engineering ...

Datacenters are the heart of our digital lives. Online applications, such as social-networking and e-commerce, run inside datacenters under strict Service Level Objectives for their tail latency. Tight latency SLOs are necessary for such services to remain ...

SNOW-V is a stream cipher proposed by Ekdahl et al. at IACR ToSC 2019(3) with an objective to be deployed as the encryption primitive in 5G systems. The stream cipher offers 256-bit security and is ready for deployment in the post-quantum era, in which as ...

Modern large-scale data platforms manage colossal amount of data, generated by the ever-increasing number of concurrent users. Geo-replicated and sharded key-value data stores play a central role when building such platforms. As the strongest consistency m ...

Modern online services come with stringent quality requirements in terms of response time tail latency. Because of their decomposition into fine-grained communicating software layers, a single user request fans out into a plethora of short, μs-scale RPCs, ...

Remote Procedure Calls are widely used to connect datacenter applications with strict tail-latency service level objectives in the scale of µs. Existing solutions utilize streaming or datagram-based transport protocols for RPCs that impose overheads and li ...

In large scale data centers, network infrastructure is becoming a major cost component; as a result, operators are trying to reduce expenses, and in particular lower the amount of hardware needed to achieve their performance goals (or to improve the perfor ...

A distance bounding (DB) protocol is a two-party authentication protocol between a prover and a verifier which is based on the distance between the prover and the verifier. It aims to defeat threats by malicious provers who try to convince that they are cl ...

As hardware evolves, so do the needs of applications. To increase the performance of an application, there exist two well-known approaches. These are scaling up an application, using a larger multi-core platform, or scaling out, by distributing work to mul ...

Adapting the transmission rate of video telephony Internet applications in order to guarantee the maximal communication quality is still an open and extremely challenging problem. The congestion control algorithm, which is the algorithm responsible for adj ...

Our work studies network neutrality, a property of communication networks which means that they treat all traffic the same, regardless of application, content provider or communication protocol. This is an important problem, because sometimes users suspect ...

The conventional wisdom is that aggressive networking requirements, such as high packet rates for small messages and microsecond-scale tail latency, are best addressed outside the kernel, in a user-level networking stack. In particular, dataplanes borrow d ...

In the last decades the Internet traffic has greatly evolved. The advent of new Internet services and applications has, in fact, led to a significant growth of the amount of data transmitted, as well as to a transformation of the data type. As a matter of ...

The booming popularity of online services is rapidly raising the demands for modern datacenters. In order to cope with data deluge, growing user bases, and tight quality of service constraints, service providers deploy massive datacenters with tens to hund ...

Bias-resistant public randomness is a critical component in many (distributed) protocols. Existing solutions do not scale to hundreds or thousands of participants, as is needed in many decentralized systems. We propose two large-scale distributed protocols ...

The concept of the IntegrCiTy platform is built around the development of a single application as a suite of independent software: project partners will mutualize a certain number of tools that shall be integrated in the IntegrCiTy platform. Therefore, a r ...

Datacenter-networking research requires tools to both generate traffic and accurately measure latency and throughput. While hardware-based tools have long existed commercially, they are primarily used to validate ASICs and lack flexibility, e.g. to study n ...

We present protocols for creating pairwise secrets between nodes in a wireless network, so that these secrets are secure from an eavesdropper, Eve, with unbounded computational and memory capabilities, but with limited network presence. We first present a ...
