The detection of inelastically scattered soft x-rays with high energy resolution usually requires large grating spectrometers. Recently, photoelectron spectrometry for analysis of x-rays (PAX) has been rediscovered for modern spectroscopy experiments at sy ...

Ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) is a powerful tool to characterize the surface structure of heterogeneous catalysts in situ. In order to improve the time resolution and the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of photoemission spectra, we ...

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have shown an incredible increase in efficiency, reaching as high as 25.7%, which now competes with traditional photovoltaic technologies. Herein, we excluded CsX and RbX (X = I–, Br–, Cl–), the most commonly used cations to ...

The adsorption behavior of beta-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) at the carbon/electrolyte interface has been studied using a combination of neutron reflectometry (NR) and solution depletion isotherms. Coupling the NR technique with an electrochemi ...

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measures the binding energy of core-level electrons, which are well-localised to specific atomic sites in a molecular system, providing valuable information on the local chemical environment. The technique relies on m ...

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) and titanium-doped DLC coatings were prepared by hybrid PECVD/direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS). In this study, we show that the operating conditions of titanium-doped DLC coatings used for implants in surgical devices si ...

Preliminary results investigating the microstructure, bonding and effect of beryllium oxide formation on retention in the JET ITER-like wall beryllium tiles, are presented. The tiles have been investigated by several techniques: Scanning Electron Microscop ...

The two-dimensional electron gas at the surface of titanates gathered attention due to its potential to replace conventional silicon based semiconductors in the future. In this study, we investigated films of the parent perovskite CaTiO3, grown by pulsed l ...

Insight into two different uniform atomic-scale microstructures of Cu-and Ti-oxides sputtered on polyethylene (PET) presenting different redox properties and a distinct bacterial inactivation dynamics. Co-sputtered (CuOx-TiO2-PET) consists mainly of CuO. I ...

This study reports the colloidal preparation FeOx, TiO2 and FeOx-TiO2 grafted on polyethylene (PE) films leading to bacterial inactivation. A fast bacterial inactivation was attained by the FeOx-TiO2 compared to the FeOx-PE film due to the interfacial char ...

This study reports on a Cu-sputtered film on polystyrene (PS) leading to the discoloration/degradation of methylene blue (MB) under low intensity solar simulated irradiation. Direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS) was used to graft uniform, adhesive Cu ...

Recent years have witnessed fast advancements in near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron (NAPP) spectroscopy, which is emerging as a powerful tool for the investigation of surfaces in presence of vapors and liquids. In this paper we present a new chamber ...

This study addresses the preparation of uniform, adhesive and robust thin Cu-polyethylene films (PE-CuOx) by direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS). Cu-coatings of 25 nm sputtered with 60W deposited 0.16% weight Cu/weight PE leading to the fastest bact ...

This thesis focuses on the commissioning and characterization of HARMONIUM, an ultrafast tunable EUV source based on high-harmonic generation for performing photoelectron spectroscopy of liquids. In ultrafast photoelectron spectroscopy a short pump pulse i ...

The photocatalytic activity, mechanism and characterization of polyethylene-TiO2 films (PE-TiO2) during the discoloration/degradation of methylene blue (MB) are reported in this study. PE-TiO2 films were prepared at moderate temperatures (similar to 90 deg ...

Examining the electrocatalytic performance of naturally-occurring metallic minerals is of interest for energy conversion applications given their unique atomic composition and formation history. Herein, we report the electrocatalytic function of an iron-ba ...

We report an investigation of the structural and electronic properties of a Pb monolayer (ML) grown on Ag(1 0 0), by combining x-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD) and angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). The Pb atoms are found to arrange in ...

Zn1-xCoxO (0 < x < 0.146) conductive thin films have been deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering of metallic Zn and Co targets at high pressure and temperature. The structural properties have been investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray ...

Comprehensive studies of gas-solid reactions require the in-situ interaction of the gas at a pressure beyond the operating pressure of ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The recent progress of near ambient pressure XPS allows to ...

A single step synthesis of carbon doped TiO2 (anatase) nanomaterials have been reported by using combustion synthesis using ascorbic acid and citric acid fuels. X-ray diffraction studies indicated the formation of nanosized anatase titania, whereas, transm ...
