Security and privacy-sensitive smartphone applications use trusted execution environments (TEEs) to protect sensitive operations from malicious code. By design, TEEs have privileged access to the entire system but expose little to no insight into their inn ...

Masonry buildings form building aggregates around the world in historical centers, which developed as the layout of the city or village densified. In these aggregates, adjacent buildings can share structural walls, connected at the interfaces by interlocki ...

Group testing is a technique that can reduce the number of tests needed to identify infected members in a population, by pooling together multiple diagnostic samples. Despite the variety and importance of prior results, traditional work on group testing ha ...

Hydropower plants play a crucial role in the power system facing ambitious renewable energy targets. Due to their inherent controllability, they are well suited to provide flexibility to the grid. However, an increased flexibility provision leads to a prol ...

Uncertainty quantification is a central challenge in reliable and trustworthy machine learning. Naive measures such as last-layer scores are well-known to yield overconfident estimates in the context of overparametrized neural networks. Several methods, ra ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is an Additive Manufacturing (AM) process consolidating parts layer by layer, from a metallic powder bed. It allows no limitation in terms of geometry and is therefore of particular interest to various industries. Metallic LP ...

It is well-known that for any integral domain R, the Serre conjecture ring R(X), i.e., the localization of the univariate polynomial ring R[X] at monic polynomials, is a Bezout domain of Krull dimension

Nowadays mobile phones have become indispensable, as they have been endowed with many of the capabilities that a user was able to achieve previously with the help of PCs only. Among the functions that mobile phones perform we identify audio and video calls ...

We develop a reduced model for hard-magnetic, thin, linear-elastic shells that can be actuated through an external magnetic field, with geometrically exact strain measures. Assuming a reduced kinematics based on the Kirchhoff-Love assumption, we derive a r ...

Unstructured neural network pruning algorithms have achieved impressive compression ratios. However, the resulting-typically irregular-sparse matrices hamper efficient hardware implementations, leading to additional memory usage and complex control logic t ...

Establishing a reliable value for the axial pipe-soil interface resistance is critical for the design of offshore pipelines. Over the last few years, several independent research groups have modified existing methodologies or devised new testing setups to ...

With the purpose of reducing the heating energy in buildings, it is common practice to install energy-efficient windows to increase the thermal insulation of a façade. These insulating glass units (IGIJ) include a thin silver coating acting as an infrared ...

Android apps include third-party native libraries to increase performance and to reuse functionality. Native code is directly executed from apps through the Java Native Interface or the Android Native Development Kit. Android developers add precompiled nat ...

We further the classification of rational surface singularities. Suppose (S, n, k) is a 3-dimensional strictly Henselian regular local ring of mixed characteristic (0, p > 5). We classify functions f for which S/(f) has an isolated rational singularity at ...

Overview Cough audio signal classification has been successfully used to diagnose a variety of respiratory conditions, and there has been significant interest in leveraging Machine Learning (ML) to provide widespread COVID-19 screening. Th ...

In this paper, we propose algorithms that leverage a known community structure to make group testing more efficient. We consider a population organized in disjoint communities: each individual participates in a community, and its infection probability depe ...

Disinfection agents have been present in our daily lives for several decades in detergents or in personal care products, where their role is to prevent the spread of pathogenic microor-ganisms. One of the largest class of disinfection agents is quaternary ...

In recent years, population aging and the consequent higher incidence of noncommunicable diseases, have increased the need for long-term health monitoring. Moreover, as healthcare cost is projected to grow substantially by 2030 in OECD countries, the deman ...

We investigate the problem of classifying - from a single image the level of content in a cup or a drinking glass. This problem is made challenging by several ambiguities caused by transparencies, shape variations and partial occlusions, and by the availab ...

On 28 February 2018, 57mm of precipitation associated with a warm conveyor belt (WCB) fell within 21 h over South Korea. To investigate how the large-scale circulation influenced the microphysics of this intense precipitation event, we used radar measureme ...
