Prism adaptation (PA) is a useful method to investigate short-term sensorimotor plasticity. Following active exposure to prisms, individuals show consistent after-effects, probing that they have adapted to the perturbation. Whether after-effects are transf ...

Evidence from behavioral studies suggests that the spatial origin of sounds may influence the perception of emotional valence. Using 7T fMRI we have investigated the impact of the categories of sound (vocalizations; non-vocalizations), emotional valence (p ...

Social media studies often collect data retrospectively to analyze public opinion. Social media data may decay over time and such decay may prevent the collection of the complete dataset. As a result, the collected dataset may differ from the complete data ...

Previous research has suggested that bodily signals from internal organs are associated with diverse cortical and subcortical processes involved in sensory-motor functions, beyond homeostatic reflexes. For instance, a recent study demonstrated that the pre ...

Background: Mirror therapy is thought to drive interhemispheric communication, resulting in a balanced activation. We hypothesized that embodied virtual mirror visual feedback (VR-MVF) presented on a computer screen may produce a similar activation. In thi ...

The symptoms of patients with left personal neglect are characterized by inattention towards contralesional (left) body parts while at the same time explicitly ascertaining ownership for the neglected hemibody. It is currently unknown if personal neglect i ...

Brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) allow the user to control an external device such as a robotic arm, a cursor, or an avatar in a virtual world through the real-time decoding of brain signals and without the involvement of the musculoskeletal system. Althoug ...

Introduction: Electrical heterogeneity in the atria has been consistently linked with the initiation and perpetuation of atrial fibrillation (AF). The present model-based study investigated the contribution of action potential duration (APD) heterogeneitie ...

Despite technical advances in brain machine interfaces (BMI), for as-yet unknown reasons the ability to control a BMI remains limited to a subset of users. We investigate whether individual differences in BMI control based on motor imagery (MI) are related ...

A method for optimizing an implementation of a logic circuit, comprising steps of providing an interpretation of the logic circuit in terms of 3 Boolean variable majority operators M, with each of the majority operators being a function of a plurality of v ...

Let P be a set of n > d points in for d >= 2. It was conjectured by Zvi Schur that the maximum number of (d-1)-dimensional regular simplices of edge length diam(P), whose every vertex belongs to P, is n. We prove this statement under the condition that any ...

Perceptual learning is learning to see. For example in a bisection task, three parallel lines are presented with the central line slightly offset towards the right or the left outer line. Participants indicate the offset direction. Training gradually impro ...

This study aims to explore modulation of the connectivity pattern when people perform left hand versus right hand motor imagery and probe the feasibility of adopting connectivity information to discriminate these tasks. Nine subjects were recorded with 16- ...

Often it is assumed that the time of perception is identical or tightly linked to the perception of time. For example, we can clearly perceive a 20 ms delay of two squares presented one after the other at nearby locations (leading to the percept of apparen ...

Perceptual learning can occur when stimuli are only imagined, i.e., without proper stimulus presentation. For example, perceptual learning improved bisection discrimination when only the two outer lines of the bisection stimulus were presented and the cent ...

We report experimental results related to the dam-break problem for viscoplastic fluids. Using image processing techniques, we were able to accurately reconstruct the free-surface evolution of fixed volumes of fluid suddenly released a plane. We used Carbo ...

The reaction mechanism for nitrous oxide (

{N}_{2}O

) direct decomposition into molecular nitrogen and oxygen was studied on binuclear iron sites in Fe-ZSM-5 zeolite using the density functional theory (DFT). Starting from the hydroxylated bi-iron complex ...
